The Grass Doctor

Is it possible to buy grass seeds that grows short grass that never needs to be cut?

I just want to grow some grass in my little garden (in the UK) and not have to cut it as I don't have a lawn mower and don't want to buy one, as I don't have the space to store it and it's costly.

  1. No, all grass needs to be cut. Why not try a chamomile lawn. If you buy" Treneage" it does not flower, and should not need cutting. It also smells nice. If you only have a small area of grass you could also cut it with shears. Good luck
  2. Wouldn't that be a dream lawn? I don't know of a grass that is currently available that you don't have to mow. Some companies have a chemical available that controls the growth rate of grass - a growth regulator. It makes the grass less prone to stretching upward and in some cases causes the grass not to seed out. I have never tried a growth regulator as they are expensive and must be applies at a certain time during the growth cycle. Since it's a small area, try some ornamental grass that stays low. In the southern United States, we use Mondo grass. You can cut it once a year. Ask around and you can find something low-maintenance for you garden. Good luck!
  3. I can understand wanting to have a low maintainance lawn, but in a garden?! Just. No. Don't. Grass is used as a lawn because it will take over everything. If you plant grass in your garden it will pop up EVERYWHERE and no matter how you pull it you'll probably never get rid of it. There are ground covers that will do the same thing or ornamental grasses that are bred to be non-evasive, if it's for a garden consider these instead. As for ground covers, creeping thyme is LOVELY, you get a lovely whiff of it when you step on it. Sweet Woodruff is also lovely, has a scent and lovely tiny white flowers.
  4. plant emo grass so it cuts itself! bahaha....I crack myself up...
