Canada Green Grass Seed - Any Good?
Has anyone used this type of grass seed. It is advertised widely as a quick and easy reseeding solution. I have a very mossy lawn that needs to be raked out and reseeded. Would this type of seed be suitable? I am in S/E UK

- I used a green grass seed once and it was great. I saw the add your talking about and when I figured out how much grass you received for the price it was very expensive. I ran across mine at Lowes or Walmart or Handyman.
- Good question! I've seen those ads for the Canada Green grass seed, and always wondered myself if it's any good. Will look with interest at any other replies you get . . . .
- Canada Green Grass Seed is a mixture of red fescue, annual rye and kentucky blue, internet ads seem pricy. I would suggest you talk to a local garden centre to see what mixture they recommend for your local growing conditions. Grass seed mix is sold by the pound; you likely will pay less for a better product at the garden centre. If your lawn is mossy, you may be fighting a losing battle. Moss likes to to grow in infertile, sandy, acid, moist soil in shade. Grass needs fertile, loamy, slightly alkaline, averge moisture soil in full sun. They are exact opposites. If moss is growing well and grass is not, the conditions are not suitable for grass. Add fertilizer, improve drainage, add lime, add compost or topsoil and remove any trees shading your lawn before reseeding. If not possible, consider a different ground cover.
- Yes, I got it at B&Q I bought the smallest bag and sowed it on the problem area in my lawn and it was brill. Im on heavy clay and have moss and drainage problems but so far the Canada grass has done really well. Mind, to do a larger area it would be pricy as you say so my plan is to do a plot at a time.
