what is the latest date to plant grass seeds ???????

what is the latest date to plant grass seeds in ny (zone 7) also i would like to plant a magnolia tree is that still possible now

1. as long as you keep them watered, you probably can plant them any time this year. I planted a Magnolia in Texas in July its doing well.
2. Of course you can. Grass seed won't even germinate until soil temperature reaches roughly 70 degrees during the day time.
3. You need to check out the night time temps to be sure it does not fall below 55 degrees at night so the seed will germinate. Different grass seed germinate at different temps so read the directions on the seed packet. If it has remained at a planting temp at night then you can plant the grass seed. Keep it moist and cover with a light layer of straw of vermiculite to keep the birds from eating the seed and the water from washing it away.
4. Grass seeds germinate in four days at 95 degree days, so keep the area wet. I am starting now to plant in zone 3.
