- a) 40*90=3600 foot sq. 3600/250 = 15 boxes b) 15*1.79*1.06=28.46 c) 50*127=6350 foot sq 6350/250=26 boxes 26*1.79*1.06=49.33 10 boxes difference = 10*1.79*1.06 = 18.97
- raj_vek You forgot to account for the house on the lot A, lawn area = yard lot (40*90) - house size (20*30) LA = 3600- 600 = 3000 square feet 3,000' / 250' per box = 12 boxes B, 12 * 1.79 * 1.06 = 22.7688 ($22.77) C, (50*127) - (40*90) Difference in lawn area 2750sq.feet 2750/250 = 11 boxes 11* 1.79 = $19.69 with tax $19.69 * 1.06 = 20.8714 (rounded answer:$20.87)
- a. 40ft x 90ft = 3600sq. ft (area of the lot) 20ft x 30ft = 600sq. ft (area of the house) Subtract the area of the house from the area of the lot and that tells you how much land you need to cover. 3600ft - 600ft = 3000ft of land that needs to be covered. One box of seed covers 250 square feet, so you simply divide 250 into 3000, 3000ft / 250ft = 12. So you need 12 boxes of seed to cover the lot. b. 12boxes x $1.79price of boxes = $21.48 x 6% sales tax = sales tax is going to be $1.2888 so if you round up it is $1.29, if you don't it is $1.28, add in the total before tax with the tax amount and you have the total amount of the boxes of seed including tax. c. 50ft x 127ft = 6350sq. ft (size of lot) Since we already know that the area of the house is 600 sq. ft we just subtract that from the new size of the lot 6350sq. ft - 600sq. ft = 5750sq. ft, so we know each box of seed covers 250sq. ft, so we divide 250 into 5750, 5750 / 250 = 23, we find that we need 23 boxes to cover the lot. So then to find out it's total cost we would take 23 and multiply it by the price for each box, 23 x $1.79 = $41.17, then we need to add in sales tax. $41.17 x 6% = $2.4702, so this number cannot be rounded up therefore our total cost for the boxes of seed including sales tax is $43.64. The 23 boxes is roughly $20.87 more than the 12 boxes.
