I just built a new House the ground here is very sandy. Can I grow wheat in my yard as a starter?
I would like to plant the wheat first, then after it gets tall enough to mow plant kentucky blue grass. Will this work? I planted the front with just blue grass seed and it looks awful. If the wheat will work How much would I need to buy for half acer, and where do I buy the seed from?

- I don't understand why you would want to plant wheat. When you plant a new lawn, you have to keep it watered each week and give it time to mature and grow thick. It is not an overnight thing.
- As far as the grass goes, you should get some fertilizer........they have places where you can shovel it up yourself and I think would be alot cheaper than if you bought it by the bag. If you don't know of any such place go to a nursery, get those really big bags and mix it in with the sand. This is what my father did, and we had beautiful plants, trees and grass. When we moved in there wasn't even a weed growing! Good luck!
