My friend tilled the yard, planted grass seeds and then tilled again after planting them.?
It has been one week and I have not seen any grass spouting. I thought that he was supposed to plant the seeds and continue to water, not till after planting them. Do you think that the grass will grow?

- very sparsely, if at all. Don't till again after the grass seed is down, lightly rake it in, then cover with mulch.
- You don't till the seed in after it is planted. It will be tilled too far down into the soil to germinate. You may have some that are still near the top, but probably not enough to produce a good lush lawn. I would reseed and gently rake it into the top of the soil.
- Grass seed can't be tilled in or under the ground! Spread it on the top of good soil and water it! It can be covered with straw to keep in moisture and keep birds from eating it
- Everything he did was wrong. Tilling it in and the time of year. If it sprouted it would not have sufficent roots to handle the on comming heat of the summer. Till again in the fall say around middle to end of Sept. lightly rake in the seed and water it until it sprouts
- check to see how deep the seed genrally is planted, take a piece of pipe about inch two inch round penetrate soil about 4 inches deep. push plug of soil out look for seed deepth. seed should only be about 1/2 inch deep. continue to water everyday! dont give up never use straw or hay , that only blocks sunlight to seed, it also contains weed seeds natrually so you will be competting with a lot of weeds in the end with straw.
- No. Find a new friend who knows how to prepare the ground and plant grass seed.
