best way to put down new grass seeds?

I just rototilled part of my patio (about 100 Sq feet) and want to put down new grass seeds. but I dont know if I am supposed to pull up all the dead grass and roots first ( theres not a lot) Or can i just throw down some fertilizer mix it into the soil and throw down some seed? Thanks in advance.

  1. You can buy pre-mixed seed and fertilizer mix at Lowes etc. It works great, but requires lots of watering. I usually water it once in the morning and once in the late afternoon.
  2. It would be helpful to pull up all the dead grass. If you just throw down some grass seed, the birds will happily come along and remove it for you. I always cover my freshly dispersed grass seed with something. Perhaps you can cover the seed with a light layer of grass clippings or straw. Good luck!
