The Grass Doctor

Did my grass seed expire?

I purchased 2 bags of Scotts PurePremium grass seed last July containing various bluegrasses, ryegrasses, and fescues. One bag says that it was tested in December 2006 and the other January 2007. I planted these seeds last September and they germinated very well. Then over a week ago I planted more seeds to fill in some bare spots and not a single seed has sprouted. I watered regularly once a day, used seeding soil, and the temperatures were in the 60s during the day and 40s at night. Is the temperature too cold, did the grass seed expire, did I not water enough, should I buy new seeds?

  1. nope, the seed is still ok. read on the back of the bag of seed it says " seeds will germinate best when temp are around 60-70s. so you plant the seed now, it will merge in early summer, that is what i had read from the back side of the grass bag. plus, seed will last for a long time, at least 2-3 years, so you are ok^^
  2. It takes some grasses more than a week to germinate. It should be alright
