Is "catgrass" really beneficial to cats?
Hi! Are there real benefits of cat grass? I am referring to those which can be bought from pet shops. They usually come in the form of a box containing seed which we must add water to grow it. Some manufacturers claim that they are healthy and can help prevent furball. Is that true? Thank you.

- It it suppose to help them be more healthy! But it kinda cost alot. If you buy they get addicted to very quick. Yes it will help with hairball control.
- It is helpfull! It helps with digestion...however the one's with the seeds are kind of hard to grow. My cat always ate it all up too quickly because the grass didn't get very full. I suggest buying the ones that are already grown. Petco and Pet smart have them....ususaly in square containers and they're really full and the grass is really high. A much better option.....oh and sometimes grass will make them throw up. It's not a lot usually and it's actually good for them. Good luck!
- It has it's benefits, I'm sure. I buy mine catnip, makes him loopy! Is crabgrass good for crabs?
- Yes it is, it helps the digestion but don't bother buying it if your cats go outside where they can get all the grass they need for free. It does help with furballs and will make them throw up.
- The grass is especially good for cats that don't get outside. The best one is by Gimborn...its in a white rectangular container, it's called CatAbout CAT GRASS PLUS, and it works excellent. My cats are never without grass.
- The general consensus is Yes, cats get some benefit from catgrass. Many other animals, such as dogs and birds, also eat grass. All commercial cat grass kits are essentially the same, either you buy an already sprouted container or you buy a tray that has been pre-seeded with seeds such as rye, wheat, barley, or oats. Problem with the pre-sprouted kit is that you are lucky to get 4 days use out of it before the grass wilts and dies. Problem with the "add water" variety of kit, is that your cat will usually pull out the grass and soil and drop both onto your floor. Both types of kits are expensive due to their throw away nature. I have a called company "Whites Pet Grazing Supplies Inc" which sells a patented, re-usable, kit that has a mesh cover to allow your cat to graze without making a mess. This durable kit will last for many years. You simply buy some oat or wheat seeds and plant a new crop when the old crop wilts, usually after about 3 or 4 weeks. To see pictures of our GRAZERQUEEN kit and a more detailed description, please visit our web site at HTTP://WWW.GRAZERQUEEN.COM. Most stores refuse to carry our product due to it's re-usable nature. The kit is manufactured in Canada.
