The Grass Doctor

What plant can I get that my cat can eat on safely?

I don't want a kit, or seeds, I just want to go to the garden center and pick up a small plant that he can safely munch on a few leaves. So don't mention catnip or grass. If you don't know, you don't have to say so, you can just try to answer another question.

  1. Its called cat grass. A cat can eat it and play with it!!! Wow, 2 deals in 1!
  2. You can go to natural food stores and many pet shops and buy wheat or oat grass in 4" square pots. My cats always greatly enjoy spider plants (which I why I can't keep plants!). The one thing to consider about buying a houseplant or garden plant though, many are treated with pesticides that can be stored in the plant. Such pesticides can be toxic to your cat. Ask about organic plants that won't have toxins.
  3. Cat Grass and catnip are the best bets, but you're not interested in those. Here is a list of nontoxic plants: http://www.cfa.org/articles/plants-non-toxic.html Note your cat may throw up if s/he eats them, but thats normal.
  4. Spider plants are safe for cats. Also for birds. Have you tried Karen Pryor's book on training cats with a clicker? you reward good behavior, when you see it, you click and feed the cat a bit of chicken. About an inch square. You can teach them to walk on a leash, come when you call, with a clicker. The spider plants can be restarted easily, by replanting the baby plants that form on the ends of the air roots.
  5. I would suggest CatGrass. It a totally safe plant for your cat that is basicly grass, but it has been grown so that your cat can chew it. Don't ask me how they do it. Anyway you can find CatGrass in about any petstore, or gorcery store (in the pet section).
  6. pet grass you cab buy it at pets mart
