- Take this cat to a nearby vet or animal pound. They will keep the cat there, feed it, and it will live happily until they find a new owner to adopt it. I have adopted 2 cats from Cat Welfare, which is a Pound nearby to my house.
- Can you coax the cat into the house? Has your father put straw down on top of the new grass seed, because if not it is not only the cat, the birds, mice any other critter will get in it and eat it as well. Maybe find a friend that could take it in. Not sure how to keep it out of the yard it is used to being in. Cats are crafty they will find a way to be where they are comfortable.
- You can make lots of loud noises or bang on pots and pans.....Beat on the shed trying to get it to move....or try to catch it and take it away.
- Scatter mothballs over the grass seed or try an animal repellent from a pet store. There used to be this green, jelly like pellet that worked great at keeping cats out of my flowers- I think it was called "No-Go." Call your local no-kill shelter and ask them if someone will help you trap the cat so they can take it for adoption.
- First off, shooting an animal is illegal. Your dad could be arrested for animal cruelty. The cat is attracted to the smell. There are several internet websites that have natural deterrents available. Have your dad look at my answer and do some humane research.
- All ya have to do is put some orange peels on your yard and spread them around. Cats hate the smell of citrus and will go away from it.
- If this is not your cat you should try to catch it and take it to a local shelter. They will care for it properly and find it a good home. If you can't catch it then you should call animal control to come and catch it for you, they can even lend you a live bait cage to catch it in. It should not be living under your shed. If it is your cat then coax it into your house and keep it there during your fathers planting. Don't let it out til the seeds have taken hold. But don't let him shoot the cat. I adopted all three of my cats from shelters where people could not or would not care for them. It is a much better alternative to living under your shed.
- Go out and buy a can of wet cat food. Sit near the shed with the food for a while and try to get the cat to come out. Once the cat is out, feed it and then take it to your local pet shelter. That's probably the only way you can get rid of it for good so your dad wont hurt it.
- Some animal shelters or humane organizations will bring you a humane trap and then pick the cat up later. The orange peel idea is good, but it's messy. Repellents are expensive and smell awful and you need to keep re-apply them. The best thing to do would be to try to block the shed so the cat can't get under it. Lure the cat out with food and then close it up. Then kitty will have no place to go.
