If I plant grass seed on mossy ground w/o stripping up the moss 1st, is there any chance the grass will grow?
Stripping the moss, killing the moss - it all sounds so HARD! If I'm too lazy to remove the moss, but still aerate the soil (rented rototil?) and put down all the requisite fertilizer and use shade grass, am I just wasting my time?

- Make sure you have good soil to plant the grass in!!Dont worry about the moss!
- My husband often drops grass seed everywhere and it grows up through the moss we have between our flagstone. If you aerate the soil ( the cheap easy way is to stomp on it in some cleats you borrow from the neighbors kid) it should grow just fine with fertilizer and shade grass. Good luck! We still have snow on the ground here in MI.....I'm ready for spring!
- Yes, the grass will grow if you do all that. Some moss will come back too. It can be a very nice lawn with special softness. Don't really need to rototill. Just use a fork (a spading fork, not one off the dinner table) to open the soil up some and compst/mulch and rake it all smooth. Spread the grass seed and water. You may need to do something about drainage? It sounds like a good idea to me.
