When is the best time to plant grass seed in Central Illinois?

My yard is real muddy and a bit splotchy. Also i have lots of trees so its very shaded. The shade grass seed seemed to work well in certain parts last fall when i was experimenting but im going to buy a lot of grass seed this spring and I want to put it down when i will get the best results.

2. Right now! With as saturated as our grass is. I would do an application now and go over it again in April/May...
3. Best times for planing grass is early spring, just when the grass is starting to green up and in the early fall about six weeks before the existing grass starts to turn brown.
4. i read just recently, the best time was in the fall, before the snow of the winter, which is good germination time for the seeds, snow is rich in the nutrients it needs.
