- Go to a garden center. There are grass seeds for full sun, partial, shade, etc. You probably need to prepare the soil with nutrients, put down seed, cover it to protect from birds and water, water, water. OR you could buy sod.
- I can't recommend any particular type of seed, but I can suggest a great soil amendment to use if you want a lush, green, healthy lawn. It is called "Pozzolan" or "Lassenite ATS". This is an all natural volcanic diatomaceous soil amendment that you till into the soil at a depth of about 6 inches. It will absorb and hold water in the soil and then release the stored moisture back to the grass as needed. Getting a lawn established, it is very important to keep it well watered so this will help a lot. You want the roots to grow deep and Pozzolan will definitely help with that too. It is also great for breaking up compacted soil, like clay based soil. If you have sandy soil it will help to keep the water and nutrients (fertilizers, etc.) from washing away. It is a ONE time application so you never need to add more. It will not migrate or degrade over time. They are using this in the middle east to grow grass for golf courses in the desert. They call it "Aqua-Feed".
- Your best bet is to go your local garden center (not Home Depot). There they can tell you what is best for your lawn . Also , bring a soil sample so they can test it for the right balance , PH, acid , etc,. They will be able to sell the right stuff for your yard and tell you the proper way to apply it. In a few weeks your lawn will be looking great !
