- You might want to put heavy shade-cloth over some of each variety of grass. A lot of cattle are being grown in pine and hardwood Tree Farms across the south to get a symbolic two crop system going--trees and cattle. The best grass for shade thus far developed is called--Pensacola Bahia.
- I can tell you from experience that grass is the first thing that grows in the forest ground immediately following harvest of the trees. Say you cut the trees down to a 40 acre parcel. Winter goes by and when the spring hits the grass takes over the ground competing with the regeneration of trees. The grass is the quickest to take over the ground making difficult for other species to grow. It's growth is so intense it eventually kills it self making a thick organic mat on the ground.
