Grass Seed Help?
What a good, fairly fast growing grass seed that will grow in the shade and works really well for high traffic areas? We run a home daycare so we have lots of kids running around, as well as our dogs.

- Try a farm wholesaler. They will have fast growing grass and will be much cheaper than a garden center.
- Hmmm, you got a problem......grasses don't do well under heavy traffic such as dogs AND kids. Now you throw in shade?? I'm assuming you are in a cool grass area, you didn't say if you live north, south, east or west. So......perennial ryegrass germinate quickly, but not wild about shade and barely fair for dogs and kids. Creeping Red and other Fine Fescues are the fest choices for shady areas. For extreme shade areas you might want to consider a blend of Creeping, Hard and Chewings fescues. Problem is grass takes time to grow and become tolerant of traffic, do you have 6 months? I really don't have a good suggestion what with the traffic you have. Sorry
- Best to plant sod not seed. Use Saint Augustine grass sod in the shade. It will have runners on it if you watter it good and will take over in no time. Check with your County Agent to see if it grows good in your area. nfd♥
