  1. spray as much water as u can on it
  2. ~ A red heating lamp works for me~
  3. i live in missouri and we put hay/straw on the grass seed. put some miracle gro in it.
  4. Don't water during the day.Use a light covering of peat moss and keep it moist. Watering is best very early in the morning. Also use starter fertilizer when you do an initial seeding. You can mix it right in with the seed in the spreader.
  5. I would keep the water thing going for as long as you can. I would not put too much soil on, because the seedlings don't that much cover, and I would also recommend fertilizer such as Scott's Brand starter kit to give it the nutrients that the seeds need.
  6. put a thin layer of peat mos/spagnum down i use a pichfork to spread it it helps to retain wwater and is good for the ground if you use straw you'll have to rake it up the peat moss brakes down into the soil good luck
  7. The warmth of the ground is what causes grass to germinate, not water. Keep it covered with straw or leaves to help retain the heat. Water it once it has germinated. The temp sounds perfect for germination to occur. Also, once it germinates you should be watering about 1/2" only. You can measure that by placing a cake pan or something in the area you are watering. Too much water, the roots will not develop properly, they won't go as deep as they should. If you are watering less than 1/2" it is not doing the grass any good. I assume you put a fertilizer on with the seed. They make starter fertilizer. The Scott brand system works really well.
  8. If you've just planted it you need to keep the seeds moist. They need to be constantly moist for the seed to germinate. Seeds are pretty smart and won't pop until they sense that there will be adequate moisture for them to get started. Just remember that the seeds should be very shallow, so don't water too deep since it won't do them any good anyway. Don't drown them, just keep them moist. Twice a day is probably not often enough to sprout the seeds if it's in the 70's and 80's. You may need to give them a good spritz every 1-2 hours to ensure they sprout. After they are up and growing, put it back to twice a day until it is going good (usually 6-8 weeks), then water as normal. You may want to put down a thin layer of soil pep or straw to help the soil retain moisture.
  9. You're doing great! But I would also recommend liming your soil. Lime for agricultural purposes is wonderful because it takes the acid out of soils. It is broken down limestone, and you can get it at Home Depot or something like that. But, since you have already planted the grass, there isn't much more that you can do at this minute. Good luck!
