Can you use old motor oil to fertilize your lawn?
It seems to me to be a myth...what do you think??
Public Comments
- no. Absolutely not.
- Can you really be that out of it? Oil is poison to your lawn.
- No, used motor oil will kill your lawn, spoil your soil and most likely will get into the local water table thus fouling millions of gallons of drinking water. if some one saw you dumping use motor oil on your lawn they can report you to the authorities (EPA) and you will be fined and responsible for the clean up which can easily cost over $50KUS
- Everything will die and it is very bad for the environment
- No, I have never heard that before.
- what do you think now?
- Used oil has been used to permanatly kill weeds along fence lines etc. so no. Against the law and just a bad thing to do for reasons stated.
- Only thing it will "fertilize" is the EPA's pockets. Should you get caught pouring used oil onto the ground, you will pay a huge fine and the cost of replacing all the dirt to a level past where it saturates. Plus the costs of hauling and cleaning the dirt. Oil kills, not fertilizes living growth.
- If your goal is to kill it then yes
