The Grass Doctor

What type of pet friendly lawn fertilizers and weed killers are out there?

It's spring time so it's time to start fertilizing the lawn and spraying the weeds but I don't want to use chemicals because I don't want the dog to be laying in it or eating the grass that has the bad stuff on it. So I was wondering if there is anything out there that's safe for pets as well as fertilizes and controls the weeds? Any help is appreciated thanks.

  1. I've heard vinegar kills weeds.... not sure if it kills grass too though! There is one called Natural Weed Control out there that has vinegar in it. A good fertilizer is compost. You could also call your vet and ask them!
  2. Use fish fertilizer...found in any home gardening area for all leafy things--including the lawn. It can be added to a hose sprayer--also found in home gardening section of stores. Do it once in spring and once in summer. Dig weeds out by hand--better for you, your neighbors, the planet, and most of all--your dog. PS--deal with the weeds first...
  3. best lawn fertilizer is urine, just gather it in a milk jug and then put it in a sprayer and spray.
  4. Pet friendly and perfect lawn are not in the same book. Try the vinigar spray mentioned previously.
