Do I need to fertilize my lawn in the summer?
I live in the richmond, va. area and I have a new lawn I started last fall. It is tall fescue. Does my lawn need to be fertilized in the summer. I plan on reseeding this fall. Also I have lots of weeds. What is the best way to get rid of them?

- If you planted tall fescue, you do not need to fertilize too often and I would not fertilize in the summer. You may, if you wish, fertilize in the fall. If weeds are your problem, it would not hurt to use a standard weed-and-feed now, but again it would be better for the grass if you wait until cooler weather (if you can tolerate the weeds). I am surprised that you have a lot of weeds. You might have planted the tall fescue seed too lightly. Tall fescue does not spread or fill in spots well. But if properly seeded, it is pretty dense and resistant to weeds.
