should i fertilize fescue lawns in Carlotte NC in the winter?

  1. Hi Pale Rider, No need to fertilize. Fescue is a cold-weather grass and should be doing great this time of year. If there are bare spots, though, it's fine to overseed right now. I'd wait till spring and apply some fertilizer at the same time you put out your pre-emergent weedkiller. Happy Lawn to You! searcher
  2. This warm year may be different. But most years if you fertilize between Halloween and Thanksgiving, fescue will stay a beautiful green all winter. After Thansgiving (most years) the fertilizer will not work until spring anyway. If you don't fertilize in November fescue will turn off yellow on you before spring. Since it is so late I would wait until the Forsythia bloom ( those yellow-flowered gangly shrubs that bloom really early) and then put out pre-emergent hebicide and fertilizer together. Wait until September to overseed.
  3. go to your nearest lesco company and ask one of the salesman there they will give you the best answer.
  4. i say yes... i low nitrogen fertilizer will do fine.. the numbers on a bag mean... N P K which is nitrogen phosphorus potassium and is measured.. 10.10.10 means, 10lbs per 100
  5. No lawn should be fertilised in winter. Apply nitrogen rich fertiliser in spring and potassium rich in autumn.
  6. No. The lawns should not be fertilized during winter. You can give fertigation when spring starts.
