Lawn fertilizing?
For someone who is doing the lawn fertilizing for the first time, which spreader would you recommend - drop type or broadcaster/rotary type? If I apply fertilizer+weed control this weedend, when should I apply Grubex for grubs? The Grubex product bag says anytime between April & August, but my question is about timing of application of grubex with respect to application of fertilizer. Thanks in advance for the information.

- I prefer a broadcast spreader -- it is way faster, though less accurate. Do you have a serious grub problem in your lawn? Dead patches, where if you dig down you find lots of grubs? If not, please forget the GrubEx. It is a nasty pesticide that will kill many beneficial and attractive insects as well as the damaging beetle grubs. If you must apply it, wait till late summer.
- A rotary spreader would be the fastest. Unless you have a small yard, then use a drop spreader. If you are to purchase a spreader for lng term, pick a professional spreader such as these: www.spyker.com www.lesco.com www.earthway.com These will last much longer, and are more accurate than those purchased at a big box store.
