my neighbors are throwing dog crap, old food, and other trash on my lawn? what can I do?
My neighbors are throwing dog crap, old food, and other trash on my lawn? In fact some is on top of my shed. What can I do? I own a single family house next to an apartment building and one of their tenants is doing this. should I call the cops? Should I contact the landlord? Should I have to clean it up? I witnessed it with my own eyes. I live in Maine, can I present their landlord with some sort of lawsuit to prevent this from happening? No, we have never complained about them before. We have never even talked to the people. We cannot park on their lawn, We mind our own business. in response to "there could be behavior modification that needs to be done on my side of the fence" there could be nothing further from the truth. We get along great with our other neighbors and we have never done anything to them. I understand these things tend to go back and forth but not this one. If I saw them do it is that enough?

- Contact the landlord! ASAP, if you get no response, call the police, if you can get a photo or video of your neighbor doing this, you will have a very strong case!!!
- you can throw the stuff back.
- This is not standard behavior in a neighbor and is usually just one part of an ongoing battle. What is going on with you and the neighbor? Do you complain about where he parks? How noisy his kids are? If you were getting along with these people, it is unlikely they would be interested in tossing debris onto your property. If you can't speak to the tenant and resolve this, contact the landlord. If that doesn't work, you can file a complaint for trespass and nuisance in civil court. But I'm thinking that there is a little behavior modification you could do on your side of the fence as well.
- KILL THEM!!!!
- tell the landlord and if he does not answer call the police
- yes call the police, then the land lord, then ur lawyer to file a suite againt the landlord... thats not legal and u have every rite to take action to stop it... n u shudnt clean it... the land lord shud get someone to calen it for u...
- yupp. go after the landlord, & he'll/she'll be so pi**ed that he/she might get sued over a tenant that they'll evict them.
- I would throw it back to them. There is not really anything anyone else can do except tell them to stop.
- My former "neighbors" were some punk teenagers who threw water balloons and dirt clods at my house and put shaving cream on my car door handles...eventually these same kids burglarized my home. I think the reason why I was burglarized is because they kept getting away with doing small stuff (they put shaving cream on our cars on 3 different occasions), & they thought that they could just break into our home & we would not do anything about it. I didn't call the cops on the small stuff b/c I didn't think there was anything the cops could do. On the burglary, however, I definitely called the cops, still having no idea who had victimized me. All it took was knocking on 3 doors and talking to neighbors to find out who it was, now the kids are paying the consequences. I wish I would have talked to those neighbors sooner and I could have prevented the burglary! Soo...I think you should knock on some doors, find out who did it or at least who might have done it, then call the cops. They can be charged with trespassing and possibly harrassment if this is a commonly occurring thing. Good luck!
- I'd just bag it up and put it on their porch and see if they get the hint.
- In Texas we'd go over and kick the crap out of the idiot, might even shoot the asshole. But up in Maine I believe you have to pay'em to stop picking on you.
- First you should call the police. Then if that dont put a restraining order on them.
