Poison pet food - does anyone think this is something new?

I have a feeling that if there IS stuff in pet food that is causing poisoning it has probably been there for a long time. How many pets die each year without anyone knowing why. Cats wander off and die all the time. We usually never find the body. If a dog drops dead, people are likely to think it ate some lawn chemicals in the garage. Nobody does an autopsy. How would we know if this hasn't been going on for a long time?

  1. We wouldn't. Not really trackable.
  2. I have been wondering the same thing. What if they have always been putting melamine in the food to up the proteins, but maybe just recently upped the dosage which caused problems. They keep saying that they did not think it was the melamine that was causing sickness. Is this because it has been in there all along?
  3. NO
  4. good point, any thing is possiable.
  5. well when people give there dogs a kind of food that they think is good then they stick with that food. it doesnt take very long to find out if your dog has eaten the bad food (so ive heard) and a lot of the time when a dog just dies they take it to the vet to see what was wrong with it. if lots of dogs are having the same problem for a a lot you would think they would see if it was the dog food or if it was something they gave the dogs. that is true about cats tho...
  6. Have you read the washington Post about this food recall. I will write what it says. Criminal Probe opened in Pet food scare. and it is in the washinton Post. It is about the pigs that got the recalled food and what has happened to those pigs. Some of the pig farms are in quarantined and the other half have been slaughtered and is now in the hands of people that are going to sell it in stores and or to people that have that meat at home. In the article in howl 911.com said it may have been toward people instead of the animals. I read this in Pet connection and howl 911.com
