Grass care lawn maintenance shoes? I am looking for a kind of "shoes' that you wear on top of your shoes and you walk with them on your yard to brake the layer that is usually form after many times of trimming the yard and make dificult for the water and fertilizer to reach the soil. It has spikes and are metal or very hard ceramic tips, that breaks the layer and allow the soil to air among other benefits. They look like the golfer shoes (the bottom part) but they are for lawn purpose. I meant, you wear them on the bottom, not on the top.

What I'd like to do next spring is try to re-grow the grass out back and try to rotate the dogs between the front and back yards every 2-5 days, haven't figured out exactly how many days would be the best for this or if it's even a good idea at all. Are there any lawn care tips that can help me to keep my grass while letting the dogs use the yard too?

Need some lawn care advice (balding lawn)? Our front yard has some grass-growing issues. We think it may be caused by water runoff during rainfall. We also have three trees that might be contributing to the problem. (?) My dad has tried laying out new grass, he's tried turning the soil and he's tried blocking water run off to that area of the lawn. I would say the 'balding' is taking up about 1/4 of the front lawn....it's very noticible. Any tips? Advice? We live around Houston, TX if that makes any difference in lawn care. Thank You! :)
Help? What should i do regarding my lawn service? I'm 13 years old, and a few days ago i put flyers around my neighborhood on everyone's mailbox about my lawn care. On the flyer I offered mowing, blowing, fertilizing, and weed removal. I just received an email - a lady asked if I could remove a shrub in her yard. I have lawn mowing experience, but I've never really done anything with shrubs. What should I do? And how should i reply to her? Also this next part is optional but any tips for a teen lawn service? Thanks

What type of grass grows the best on Long Island? I was wondering what type of grass grows the best on long island in a partially shady mostly sunny area and any other tips for lawn care(ie. when to use lime, use of peatmoss ect.) that people might have or possibly some good regional websites on the topic. The front yard will be mostly sunny not high traffic and the back yard is also a mix but is high traffic. Any help will be appreciated
Does cutting the lawn make it...? Does cutting the lawn make it grow in thicker? I have horses and want a thick grass that will last longer so I can feed less hay this summer. Tips on lawn care would be great. I am thinking of over seeding but money is tight so as little of over seeding as I can would be the best route.
School me on proper shady lawn care? Here are some particulars: live in PA, have about a third of an acre with about a 10, 50-60 year old trees in my yard. There's a mix of grass, moss, weeds, and other organic matter (acorns, twigs, needles, etc) on the ground now. I'm trying to grow grass effectively. This is the third spring we've been here, and in the previous two years, I've put down random 2-3 pound bags of grass to try to get some of the repair started. It's pretty spotty and I did notice that this spring, some of the seed that I planted in the past 2 years had surprisingly began to emerge! But it's still pretty thin. I'm not interested in tearing up the whole lawn and starting from scratch. I'm interested in perhaps trying some of those new products like Scotts EZ Seed, but want to perhaps mix it with another seed to a) control costs, and b) have a grass that can grow fast, but live throughout the year and remain after the grounds thaw in the winter. Is this doable? If so, what are your tips to help my partial lawn grow into a nice, thick lawn? BQ, I just spread some weed 'n feed in my front lawn, how long should I wait to spread seed so that the new seed won't burn from the fertilizer? I appreciate the input. But I will also add that my neighbors have GREAT lawns. So my physical attributes don't matter TOO much. I'm just wondering how I can get over the hump! :)!
i have a lawn care issue? Every time I mow the lawn there are patches of dirt left over is this because i need to fill in those spots with grass seed? Any other tips would be helpful

whats the best type of seed to revive my lawn? I moved into a rental house and our back lawns 70% weeds 25% dead weeds and 5% grass. I've been watering to get the grounds soft enough for seeding, but am unsure of what to use, when to plant, and how to care for it after seeding. Can somebody with experience give me tips on killing weeds and making some soft grass for my kids in the back yard. Plus any tips on sprinkler system would be helpful. Thanks alot all you answerers.
Any tips on tree care? I had a small sapling in my backyard that was destined for a date with a lawn mower so I pulled it out and replanted it in a bucket to take with me when I move next month. I've checked it out and I think it's a Northern Catalpa tree although I'm very likely to be mistaken. I dug up some of the dirt/clay that it was growing (very well) in and mixed it with potting soil and "planted" the tree in a big bucket until I can plant it in my new yard. I need advice from people with green thumbs. If the tree by some miracle survives long enough to be planted, what do I need to do to make sure it stays alive? Also, what can I do while it's in the bucket to ensure survival? I did tear some of the smaller roots, but the main roots are intact. We have Catalpa's down the street from us so maybe I'm right about the tree type? Anyway...tree survival...any tips?

How to remove moss from my lawn? The side of my house has significant shade and is mostly moss at this point, so I'm looking to remove the moss and plant grass in its place. I have no experience with lawn care and have done a little research on what to do, I'm primarily looking for any extra tips or experiences people may have had. Here's my plan of action- Use a moss control product to kill existing moss. Rake out dead moss. Overseed bare areas with a mixture turf type ryegrass. Topdress seeds with about l/4 inch of loose weed-free soil. Keep moist until seedlings are established. Maintain higher soil pH with agricultural or dolomitic lime. Thanks for any advice, especially with any extra steps to maintain the shaded area.

What Could be the Reason why my Grass Is Dieing? My family just bought a nice home a few weeks ago. The grass was green and nice. But after awhile, its starting to die on a few spots of the lawn. It's about 80-90 degrees this time of year where I live and we water during the night. Please give me some tips or advice. We are first time home owners so we don't have much experience with caring for the lawn. Help?
Samples of writing? I just got a freelance writing position at a local magazine and they want a sample of my writing to "best match you with the best possible articles." What kind of writing samples are they looking for? I've just graduated from college so I have plenty of essays. I have a few creative writing pieces I wrote about two years ago for a creative class. Would it be best for me to just write something new? And if so, what should I write about? This magazine is about our small community, dealing with events, and advertising local businesses, and contains short pieces on members of the community, new businesses, and tips on things like lawn care, recycling, and parenting. Your help is very much appreciated.
How to grow great roses? OK. I have some rose bushes out front at my new house. I have a black thumb, and I know NOTHING about gardening or yard care. Shoot, I have never even mowed a lawn. So I think I hear you are to cut the roses at a certain point? What about watering them? How much/often? I could easily get online and "GOOGLE" this, but I want personal tips and advice. What works for you?
How Should Deal With Stress and Anxiety ? Stress is life. Stress is anything that causes mental, physical, or spiritual tension. There is no running away from it. All that matters is how you deal with it. This article does not deal with the factors of stress, anxiety, and depression, nor is it a clinical advice. If you feel depressed, you are not alone. It has been estimated that 75 to 90 percent of all visits to primary care physicians in America are for stress-related problems. This is why it is wise to consult a doctor if you are having physical symptoms of stress. However, here are some tips that can help from a spiritual perspective. Torture. Beatings. Loss of property. The death of loved ones. These were just some of the enormous challenges the Muslims of Makkah faced in the seventh century following their acceptance of Islam in fiercely tribal and polytheistic Makkah. Detention. Harassment. Beatings. Discrimination. Loss of Job. Profiling. Hate Crimes. Constant media attention. Surveillance. These are just some of the challenges Muslims in America today face, post-9/11. Like our predecessors in Makkah, we have begun to face great stress, anxiety, and pressure, more than ever in our recent history on this continent, although Muslims who were brought here as slaves faced worse than what we can even imagine. 1. Ask Him. He Listens: DU`A Turn each anxiety, each fear and each concern into a Dua (supplication). Look at it as another reason to submit to God and be in Sajdah (prostration), during which you are closest to Allah. God listens and already knows what is in your heart, but He wants you to ask Him for what you want. The Prophet said: Allah is angry with those who do not ask Him for anything (Tirmidhi). The Prophet once said that in prayer, he would find rest and relief (Nasai). He would also regularly ask for God's forgiveness and remain in prostration during prayer praising God (Tasbeeh) and asking for His forgiveness (Bukhari). Allah wants you to be specific. The Prophet advised us to ask Allah for exactly what we want instead of making vague Duas. Dua is the essence of worship (the Prophet as quoted in Tirmidhi). "Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not those who trespass beyond bounds. Do not make mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but call on Him with fear. And longing (in your hearts): for the mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good" (Quran 7:55-56). 2. Tie your Camel: DO YOUR PART One day Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, noticed a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it. He asked the Bedouin, "Why don't you tie down your camel?" The Bedouin answered, "I put my trust in Allah." The Prophet then said, "Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah" (Tirmidhi). Muslims must never become fatalistic. Although we know only Allah is in control and that He has decreed all things, we are each responsible for making the right choices and doing the right thing in all situations of our lives. We must take action (link to planning articles on SV). We must work to alleviate the hardships we, our families and our communities face. Ask yourself the following questions if you are worried about the state of the world: are you part of the peace movement? Is your Masjid part of the peace movement? Are you part of an interfaith group with an agenda of peace and justice? Are you working with a group fighting discrimination? If your answer is no, it is time that you sat down to plan your share of time and money in finding solutions to the problems you face. "Verily Allah does not change men's condition unless they change their inner selves" (Quran 13: 11). Turn each worry into a Du`a and each Du`a into an action plan. That will show your commitment to your request and will focus your energy in the right direction. 3. Remember that human responsibility is limited While we need to carry out our duty to the best of our abilities, always remember that you don't control the outcome of events. Even the Prophets did not control the outcome of their efforts. Some were successful, others were not. Once you have done your duty, leave the results to Allah. Regardless of the results of your efforts, you will be rewarded for the part you have played. However, never underestimate your abilities. Understand the concept of Barakah (blessings from Allah) and remember that Allah can and Insha Allah will expand them if you are sincerely exerting your energies for the right path. 4. Leave the world behind you FIVE TIMES A DAY Use the five daily prayers as a means to become more Hereafter-oriented and less attached to this temporary world. Start distancing yourself as soon as you hear Adhan, the call to prayer. When you perform Wudu, keep repeating Shahada, the declaration of faith, as water drops slip down your face, hands, arms, and hair. When you stand ready to pray, mentally prepare yourself to leave this world and all of its worries and stresses behind you. Of course, Shaytan will try to distract you during prayer. But whenever this happens, go back and remember Allah. The more you return, the more Allah will reward you for it. Also, make sure your Sajdas (prostrations) are talking Sajdas, in which you are really connecting to God and seeking His Mercy, praising Him, and asking His forgiveness. (link to Sajda article...ramadan page) 5. Seek help through SABR Seek help through Sabr and Salat (Quran 2:45). This instruction from Allah provides us with two critical tools that can ease our worries and pain. Patience and prayer are two oft-neglected stressbusters. Sabr is often translated as patience but it is not just that. It includes self-control, perseverance, endurance, and a focused struggle to achieve one's goal. Unlike patience, which implies resignation, the concept of Sabr includes a duty to remain steadfast to achieve your goals despite all odds. Being patient gives us control in situations where we feel we have little or no control. 'We cannot control what happens to us but we can control our reaction to our circumstances' is the mantra of many modern-day self-help books. Patience helps us keep our mind and attitude towards our difficulties in check. 6. Excuse Me! You are Not Running the World, HE is. It is important to remind ourselves that we don't control all the variables in the world. God does. He is the Wise, the All-Knowing. Sometimes our limited human faculties are not able to comprehend His wisdom behind what happens to us and to others, but knowing that He is in control and that as human beings we submit to His Will, enriches our humanity and enhances our obedience (Uboodiah in Arabic) towards him. Read the story of the encounter of Moses with the mysteries behind God's decision (Quran: 18:60-82). Familiarize yourself with God's 99 Names, which are also known as His Attributes. It is a powerful way of knowing Him. "God-there is no deity save Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsistent Fount of All being. Neither slumber overtakes Him, nor sleep. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth. Who is there that could intercede with Him, unless it be by His leave? He knows all that lies open before men and all that is hidden from them, whereas they cannot attain to aught of His knowledge save that which He wills them to attain. His eternal power overspreads the heavens and the earth, and their upholding wearies Him not. And He alone is truly exalted, tremendous." (Quran 2:255). The Prophet recommended reading this verse, known as Ayat al kursi, after each prayer, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him. Once Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, approached the Prophet during a difficult time and he found the Prophet in Sajda, where he kept repeating "Ya Hayy Ya Qayyum", words which are part of this verse. 7. Birds Don't Carry their Food Allah is al Razzaq (the Provider). "How many are the creatures that carry not their own sustenance? It is Allah Who feeds them and you, for He hears and knows all things (Quran 29:60)." By reminding yourself that He is the Provider, you will remember that getting a job or providing for your family in these economically and politically challenging times, when Muslims are often the last to be hired and the first to be fired, is in God's Hands, not yours. As Allah says in the Quran: "And He provides for him from (sources) he never could imagine. And if anyone puts his trust in Allah, sufficient is (Allah) for him. For Allah will surely accomplish His purpose. Verily, for all things has Allah appointed a due proportion (Quran 65:3). 8. God controls Life and Death If you fear for your physical safety and security, remember that only Allah gives life and takes it back and, that He has appointed the time for it. No one can harm you except if Allah wills. As He says in the Quran: "Wherever you are, death will find you out, even if you are in towers built up strong and high!" (Quran 4:78). 9. Remember that life is short It's easy to get caught up in our own stress and anxiety. However, if we remember that our life is short and temporary, and that the everlasting life is in the Hereafter, this will put our worries in perspective. This belief in the transitory nature of the life of this world reminds us that whatever difficulties, trials, anxieties, and grief we suffer in this world are, Insha Allah, something we will only experience for a short period of time. And more importantly, if we handle these tests with patience, Allah will reward us for it. 10. Do Zikr, Allah, Allah! "... without doubt in the remembrance (Zikr) of Allah do hearts find tranquility" (Quran 13:28). If you commute, use your time in Zikr. Pick any Tasbeeh and do that instead of listening to the radio or reading the newspaper. Maybe you can divide it up between Zikr and planning. Personally, I recite the Tasbeeh of "Subhana Allahe wa be hamdihi, subhan Allahil Azeem" 100 times as I drive. The Prophet taught us these two short phrases which are easy to say but will weigh heavy on our scale of good deeds in the Hereafter. When your heart feels heavy with stress or grief, remember Allah and surround yourself with His Zikr. Zikr refers to all forms of the remembrance of Allah, including Salat, Tasbeeh, Tahmeed, Tahleel, making supplication (Dua), and reading Quran. "And your Lord says: 'Call on Me; I will answer your (prayer)..." (Quran 40:60) By remembering Allah in the way He has taught us to, we are more likely to gain acceptance of our prayers and His Mercy in times of difficulty. We are communicating with the only One Who not only Hears and Knows all, but Who can change our situation and give us the patience to deal with our difficulties. "Remember Me, and I shall remember you; be grateful to Me, and deny Me not" (Quran 2:152). 11. Relying on Allah: Tawakkul When you awaken in the morning, thank Allah for giving you life after that short death called sleep. When you step out of your home, say 'in Your Name Allah, I put my trust in Allah, and there is no power or force except with Allah' (Bismillahi Tawakal to al Allah wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah). At night, remember Allah, with His praises on your lips. Once you have established a plan you intend to follow through on to deal with a specific issue or problem in your life, put your trust in the most Wise and the All-Knowing. "When you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah" (Quran 3: 159). Rely on Allah by constantly remembering Him throughout your day. When you lay down to sleep, remember that sleep is death. That is why one of the recommended supplications before going to sleep is "with Your (Allah's) Name I die and become alive". 12. Connect with other human beings You are not alone. Muslims are not alone. We are not suffering in silence. There are millions of good people who are not Muslim with beautiful hearts and minds. These are people who have supported us, individually and collectively, post-9/11, by checking up on us and making sure we are safe. These are individuals and organizations who have spoken up in defense of Muslims as we endured harassment and discrimination. We must think of them, talk to them, connect with them, and pray for them. Through our connections, we will break the chain of isolation that leads to depression and anxiety. 13. Compare your dining table with that of those who don't have as much as you do The Prophet said: Whenever you see someone better than you in wealth, face or figure, you should look at someone who is inferior to you in these respects (so that you may thank Allah for His blessings) (Bukhari, Muslim). Next time you sit down to eat, eye the table carefully. Check out the selection of food, the quality, the taste, the quantity, and then think of the millions of others who don't have even half as much. The Prophet's Hadith reminds us of this so that we can appreciate and thank God for all that we have. Also remember that the Prophet only encouraged us to compare ourselves to others in two respects: in our Islamic knowledge and level of belief in God (Deen). In these two areas, we should compare ourselves with those who have more than what we do. 14. Say it Loud: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar: Takbirat & Adhan Find a corner of a lake, go out in the wilderness, or even stand on your lawn at your home and call the Adhan with your heart. While driving, instead of listening to the same news over and over again, say Allahu Akbar as loudly as you can or as softly as you want, based on your mood. Year ago, I remember calling Adhan on a Lake Michigan shore in Chicago after sunset as the water gushed against my knees. I was calling it for myself. There was no one else accept the waves after waves of water with their symphony. It was relaxing and meaningful. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. 15. Pray in congregation (Jamat) Pray with other people instead of alone. If you can't pray all five prayers in congregation, at least find one or two prayers you can pray with others. If you are away, establish Jamat in your own family. During the Prophet's time, even though the Muslims endured great persecution, including physical beatings, they would sometimes meet on the side of a mountain or valley and tried to pray together. This is a great morale booster. 16. How is your Imam's Dua? Does the Imam at your local mosque make Dua silently or out loud? Ask him to supplicate with the whole congregation. Suggest Duas for him to make. Ask him to make Dua for other people. 17. Work for the Unity of Muslims Bringing Muslims together will not only help the Muslims, but it will also encourage you to focus your energies on something constructive versus zeroing in on and consistently fretting about difficulties you are going through. Invite Muslims from other ethnic groups to your functions. Visit Masjids other than yours in your city. When you meet a Muslim leader, after thanking him for his efforts, ask him what he is doing for Muslim unity. Ask Imams to make Dua for this. These are just small ways you can help yourself and the Muslim community. 18. Sleep the way the Prophet slept End your day on a positive note. Make Wudu, then think of your day. Thank Allah for all the good things you accomplished, like Zikr and Salat. Ask yourself what you did today to bring humanity together and what you did to help Muslims become servants of humanity. For everything positive, say Alhamdu lillah (Praise be to Allah). For everything negative say Astaghfirullah wa atoobo ilayk (I seek Allah's forgiveness and I turn to You [Allah]). Recite the last two chapters of the Quran, thinking and praying as you turn on your right side with your hand below your right cheek, the way the Prophet used to sleep. Then close your day with the name of Allah on your tongue. Insha Allah, you will have a good, restful night. 19. Begin the Day on a Positive Note Get up early. Get up thanking God that He has given you another day. Alhamdu lillahil lazi ahyana bada ma amatana, wa ilaihin Nushoor (Praise be to Allah Who gave us life after death and unto Him will be the return). Invest in an audio tape driven alarm clock so you can get up to the melody of the Quran. Or Let Dawud Wharnsby's joyful notes put you in a good mood. Sing along if you like. Develop your to do list for the day if you didn't do it the night before. Begin with the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing in the heavens or the earth can hurt you. He is the Highest and the Greatest. (Bismillahillazi la yazurru maa ismihi shaiun fil arze wa la fis samae, wahuwal Alee ul Azeem). The Prophet used to say this after every Fajr and Maghrib prayers. 20. Avoid Media Overexposure: Switch from News to Books Don't spend too much time checking out the news on the radio, television or internet. Spend more time reading good books and journals. When you listen to the persistent barrage of bad news, especially relating to Muslims nowadays, you feel not only depressed, but powerless. Cut down media time to reduce your stress and anxiety. It's important to know what's going on but not to an extent that it ruins your day or your mood. (similarly, when you are in a sad mood, refrain from wallowing and listening to sad songs) 21. Pray for Others to Heal Yourself. The Prophet was always concerned about other people, Muslims and non-Muslims, and would regularly pray for them. Praying for others connects you with them and helps you understand their suffering. This in itself has a healing component to it. The Prophet has said that praying for someone who is not present increases love. 22. Make the Quran your Partner Reading and listening to the Quran will help refresh our hearts and our minds. Recite it out loud or in a low voice. Listen to it in the car. When you are praying Nafl or extra prayers, pick it up and use it to recite portions of the Quran you are not as familiar with. Connecting to the Quran means connecting to God. Let it be a means to heal your heart of stress and worries. Invest in different recordings of the Quran and their translations. "O humanity! There has come to you a direction from your Lord and a cure for all [the ills] in men's hearts - and for those who believe, a Guidance and a Mercy" (Quran 10:57). 23. Be thankful to Allah "If you are grateful, I will give you more" (Quran 14:7). Counting our blessings helps us not only be grateful for what we have, but it also reminds us that we are so much better off than millions of others, whether that is in terms of our health, family, financial situation, or other aspects of our life. And being grateful for all we have helps us maintain a positive attitude in the face of worries and challenges we are facing almost daily. 24. Ideals: ONE STEP AT A TIME Ideals are wonderful things to pursue. But do that gradually. Think, prioritize, plan, and move forward. One step at a time. 25. EFFORTS not Results Count in the Eyes of Allah Our success depends on our sincere efforts to the best of our abilities. It is the mercy of Allah that He does not demand results, Alhamdu lillah. He is happy if He finds us making our best sincere effort. Thank you Allah! http://www.imanway.com/en/page.htm
How long does sod take to take root? and....abt new sod? How long before I can ignore it and have my auto sprinkler system take care of it. When I water sod everyday, is it necessary to lift it up and water the ground below it? Suppose I am watering 10 sq feet with a hose, how long should I water the area? Can I use Scotts starter for the soil below as fertilizer and Scotts Enriched lawn soil as the soil below? Any experience with these products? They work? Any substitutes? Any tips when I go to buy sod? Does Home Depot sell it anymore?

Will a bleach/water mix to kill parvo kill my grass forever? I know that I have to spray my yard and clean with this mixture, but will my grass die off forever? I called a local nursery and they said nothing will ever grow back, the lawn care companys I called said it will eventually return. I'm confused. And what are any other tips for cleaning after he gets better? He has already been taken to the vet and is on medication and seems better already. As environmentally unfriendly as it may sound, all websites have said to clean with a 3:1 ratio of bleach water. It's better to kill the grass as opposed to infecting other dogs. I rent my home, so I don't want to have a professional come in to replace lawn. I'd rather put the work in myself than to pay and arm & a leg for someone else to do it. how can i convince my mom to allow me to be the care taker of a Bearded Dragon? ok here is the deal my mom is a single mother and already has 2 boys(including me) and i help her out a lot by taking my really hyper brother on bike rides to the playground and babysit etc. And i clean my room whenever it is messy. i try to clean things when i have the time. I mow the lawn and try to be as responsible as i can. The thing is we do not have any pets. i know its her house her rules. but i go to school of choice.(its on the way to the school my mom teaches at) so i don't have that many friends on our neighborhood maybe 2 or 3. and i found out that one of my friends has a bearded dragon and i thought they were sweet and i was doing my research and was wondering how i could ask my mom if i could get a bearded dragon. Any tips? thanks so much for the info guys. we can afford the bill because my brother always leavs his room lights on through the whole day so its a matter of turning those lights off. and if i get one i will never loose interest in it they are like the coolest animals out there(to me). i know how much space they require because i have been researching them for over a month now. still feel free to leave comments!
I found this wild bird on my lawn and i put it on a branch. The next day it came back....? it is still very small and having some trouble with flying (barley getting 4 feet off the ground for short amounts of time) and looks like it left it's nest very recently. I have found no nest though there are some birds living around near my neighbors. I need advice on how to take care of, to check it for injuries (something about it seems, hurt) and what exactly to feed it,, since i only specialize in canaries. Also i need to be able to gauge its age a little better and determine the species and gender. It is mostly brown, with a fair bit of black and minimal white and yellow feathers but it's tail is all tipped yellow. Its eyes look like they are outlined in heavy black eyeliner and it's beak is a very prominent pink. It chirps a lot! any help with this would be great, do it for the birdie! Also it has landed on me about three times now and hasn't been afraid to follow me around so I am starting to wonder if there is a possibility it is maybe a pet bird gone loose? idk. It's balance is very off, it is visible when it perches and flies. my dad guessed it left the nest too early.
Saving money with kids? Post any $ saving tips for parents! (I'm not a parent, lol) -Let kids have freeware games on the computer vs. spending 50 bucks on one game -If you go to a resturant, save the plastic cups they give kids -Put together a "craft box" of old odds and ends to make stuff (cheap and good creativity exercise) -Feed stale bread to the ducks -Have handwriting practice on laminated sheets (so you don't have to buy more and more of them) -Print out free worksheets from the web to improve skills vs. buying the workbooks -Have teenagers take care of lawn for less money then the local kids
Zoysia grass.......best ways to maintain? I have a few patches I would like to fix up and I have some weeds within the grass and its yellow in some spots and green in others. What are some tips to help me...I am new to lawn care so help in every aspect (weeds, fertalization, watering, ect.)
Do you tip for a strip-mall haircut? I don't care much about the cut as long as it's short and managable, my cousin used to do it but doesn't have time any more. So I go to a SuperCuts, or Fantastic Sams, etc, I have no brand-loyalty, I go wherever is closer, least busy, or running a special, and I usually pay $14-16 once a month. Then I get the reciept and it has the restaurant-style "Tip" line at the bottom, I always get self consious about this. Are these girls living off of tips, or do they even expecting a tip for a 10 minute job? I don't tip the guy changing my oil, mowing my lawn, or fixing my furnace, and these are all more important services to me than a haircut. And I know the answer from you salon owners/employees, trust me, my wife tips more than my haircut costs, but she gets the perm, color, trim, etc. I'm talking about the strip mall, walk-ins welcome, "short on top, #4 on the sides" type of cut.

Attack of the Locusts/Secadas? Live in KY, and in the last few weeks there are TONS of locusts/secadas all over the front of my house/patio. I sparyed a pest control spray all over-but it didn't do anything. Any tips on what can ward them off of my house and patio? Are there any products I can buy myself or certain scents, flowers, anything that I can put there to keep them away? Please don't suggest I call professional help, can't afford it, please give me tips on things I can purchase or do MYSELF to help keep them off my house and front door and patio, THANK YOU. ****PLEASE...can any anyone give me some actual tips on what I CAN DO NOW TO HELP RID ME OF THESE PESTS??? Poem waht do you think of this ??? ? Eid Mubarak T'was the day of eid and all through the streets many of the childreen were getting goodies and treats They walked around happily in their new salwar kameez to fly their kites in the autome breeze It was such a joyful day here in India we had all come as one to remember allah Everyone had come to the mosque in order to pray because we all knew it was such a memorial day please give me some tips im not good with writting poems we are supposed to copy this poem So far I got that.... Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap. When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer. With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! "Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound. He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack. His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow. The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly! He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself! A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk. And laying his finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose! He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

How can I improve my essay? How can I improve this? Dwellings The home is the place where people live, store items, and find shelter. It is also where our domestic affections are centered, where the householder’s personality is reflected in a contained space. Home is where outside matters can leave us to focus on we care about most. Scott Fitzgerald's book, The Great Gatsby, contains a fictional story by about the decline of the American dream. The characters, Jay Gatsby, Nick Caraway, the Buchanan’s, and the Wilsons all keep homes that reflect their unique characters. Since many key events are chronicled in the homes of the persons, each dwelling is crucial to understanding the setting, story and disposition of the each person in the novel. The book is set in New York. The majority of the homes are placed on West Egg, "a slender riotous island which extends itself due east of New York". The origin of its name comes from the placement of two egg-shaped islands outside of New York that are parallel to each other on east and west ends. West egg is home to those who have recently come into great wealth, because of this they spend their money frivolously, engage in loose conduct, and have few worries in life. Gatsby and Nick live here. Yet, Nick is the only one who describes it as the “least fashionable of the two”, because of the garish taste of its residents. East egg is where Tom and Daisy Buchanan live. Nick Caraway describes the homes there as “… white palaces of fashionable East egg...” Nick Caraway, the narrator of the story, lives in West Egg, (at the very tip), in between two much more expensive homes. As a young man (he turns thirty during the course of the novel) from Minnesota, Nick travels to New York in 1922 to learn the bond business. On his right was Gatsby’s home, of which he had a partial view of his lawn. But Gatsby wasn’t the only one richer than him, he was surrounded by millionaires. His home was nothing in comparison to their large mansions. He had ‘a weather beaten bungalow’ that cost eighty dollars a month. Like Nick, the house is small, aging, overlooked, modest, and quiet. His neighbor Mr. Gatsby had weekly parties that lasted till the next morning. But Nick’s house was only visited a few times by Gatsby and had one occasion when he had his cousin and Gatsby over for tea. As his home had been overlooked so had he, but his quiet reflective attitude also made him the perfect candidate for a narrator. Everyone he meets seems to tell him information he did not ask for or did not even want to know. Whereas Nick is modest, his neighbor, Jay Gatsby, is the complete opposite. Mr. Gatsby owns a home that is “a colossal affair by any standard.” Nick describes it as being an imitation of Hotel de Ville in Normandy. Hotel de Ville is French for, “city hall”, so one could imagine how massive the building was. Gatsby’s house had a brand new tower on one side, under a thin bed of ivy, a marble swimming pool, and more than forty acres of greenery. The whole front of the house is positioned to catch the light. Yet it only took him three years to make the money to buy it. It was filled with, “period bed rooms swathed in silk and floral arrangements, dressing rooms, pool rooms and bathrooms with sunken baths.” Gatsby’s bedroom had a bath with a study area and cupboard in the wall. His own residence was actually quite modest, as the most expensive items were a grooming set on his dresser, which was plated in dull gold. Gatsby’s personal room reveals a lot about his character. His room is simple, yet he keeps a monstrous mansion filled with people. He throws parties, yet doesn’t mingle with the guests. He has a great deal of wealth yet very few know where it really comes from. This shows how he is putting on a sort of façade to impress someone though he only needs little. Nick noted that his “…personality is an unbroken series of gestures.” Nick soon finds out that Gatsby has acquired everything to impress Daisy who did not marry him previously because he was not rich. But rather than move on Jay has tried to recreate the past, which is not possible. In East egg, Daisy, along with her husband Tom, and their child, lives in a cheerful red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion overlooking the bay. Their lawn starts at the beach and ends at the front door. The greenery wrapped around the sides of the building. In front was a line of French windows, coated in a reflective gold. There is an assortment of expensive furniture within their home but not much else is explained about the Buchanan’s home in detail. Like their home they are consumed with wealth but have little regard for others. Both husband and wife have affairs. Daisy has a new relationship with Gatsby, and Tom has had many affairs and was recently with his mechanics wife. Between New York and West Egg lies a desolate land. Nick describes this location as, “a place where ash grows like wheat.” This point is the residence of George and Myrtle Wilson. They live in George’s shop, where he serves gas to Tom whenever they go out to the city. Their home is not even described in detail because of its insignificance. The whole area is described as being made of ash. The only distinctive object is a billboard for an oculist, which has a pair of eyes with large spectacles that seems to watch the valley, which may be a metaphor for God. Obviously this is the flux of poor people left from the figurative burning of money buy the rich. And this reflects its owner perfectly. George is a simple man, but he is overly submissive, and lacks the colorful character that the others possess. His wife, Myrtle, longs to escape this grey land and looks forward to each meeting with her affair, Tom. Throughout the book the great Gatsby homes play a crucial role in telling the story. The author mentions in fragments details about each dwelling which is placed each time at the proper moment of present action, for maximum effectiveness. The homes kept by the persons involved reinforce the established personalities of the characters. Gatsby is eventually assassinated in his marble pool, by Myrtles husband after Daisy runs over her in Gatsby’s car. The façade created Mr. Gatsby is shown to be superficial when no one comes his funeral, but his home revealed this previously by the number of people who are there as moochers, leeching off Gatsby’s wealth but not proving to be true friends. The Buchanan’s retreat back into their carefree lifestyle and Nick returns to the Midwest where he is more accustomed.

Do women want to have hedonistic drunken orgies while men slave away all day waiting on women hand and foot? It seems that they do: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApbKy19_h5Fgiqht4jy0ej0Yxgt.;_ylv=3?qid=20081112204311AAY5ig9 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=At7l5lVR0L1Jg3W3q3k9WKDsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081109230056AAXRNY1 http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiyAvJ_DPSEWRlTbQfTrGKbty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081112132639AAdr3jx Women benefit more from relationships. Even this woman admits it: "I lay in bed all day while I make my husband mow the lawn with nail clippers. Then he slaughters a fatted calf for my dinner, prepares it better than Paul Bocuse could and brings it to me on a golden platter. If at any point I need to use the bathroom, he carries me to the toilet. After dinner he gives me a full-body massage with scented oils made from herbs that he painstakingly grows himself. After I fall asleep, he spends all night cleaning the house with Q-Tips and a magnifying glass." Men do everything. They cook, they clean, they work to pay the bills, they raise the children, they care for sick wives, they rebuild the US economy, they repair nuclear reactors, they cure cancer and AIDS, they create world peace, they raise the dead, and they prove the existence of God. Women just lay around getting drunk, shooting drugs, and having lesbian sex. ARE MEN UNRECOGNIZED SAINTS WHILE WOMEN ARE WORTHLESS, SELFISH LITTLE JERKS? Or am I just a complete loser? My lovely Wendy G! I'm sorry I've been gone, but I needed inspiration, since Anatol hasn't been around.
