What's in the liquid fertilizer sprayed onto yards by Scott's Lawn Care? Is it dangerous to humans? HELP!? I have several questions. 1. What are the chemical ingredients of this fertilizer? Is it dangerous to humans, like a pesticide? And do any of its constituents bioaccumulate in the human body and contribute to the overral chemical body burden, exacerbating chances of cancer, illness, dementia, etc? 2. How long does the chemical fertilizer stay active, after being sprayed? Ergo, what is the appropriate re-entry time? My dog walked through a yard that had been sprayed with it, about seven hours after treatment. Could the dog then track these chemicals back into my home, where they can get into my body and hurt me? 3. Does this stuff essentially absorb into the grass and make it toxic? If the next day, someone cut the grass, does this make the "fresh cut grass smell" poisonous and neurotoxic, when inhaled? (The day right after it was sprayed on, the lawn was cut. Could the smell presently engulfing the house be toxic? 4. Does this chemical soup spray contain any 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, or some other chemical constituent which does or might contain dioxins? 5. Are the chemicals capable of permeating through brick walls and glass? They were sprayed in front of my room. Can any of it faze through inside where I'm at, for me to inhale?
How should I kill Weeds in my lawn? I live in Oregon, and my grass is not growing but I have like four different types of weeds coming up. How should I kill them? The last time I killed them I put Scott's Lawn Care with Weed Killing on it. But they went away and came right back up. I have moss too!
Where can I find a lawn care guide? I'm trying to gather some information regarding what treatments to give my lawn. It is a dry and weed-infested lawn. I have heard of the Scott's treatments...four or five cycles maybe. Does anyone have a calendar of sorts and a recommendation of what products to use and when? Thank you. BTW, I live in Virginia. It's a wonderful state.
Lawn care advice - how to get my lawn in order? I live in a house that is about 6 years old and was built in one of these areas that was once woodland / pasture and the whole area was cleared to make room for home development. The soil type is red clay I believe. Many areas of my yard need attention but I am concerned mostly with my back yard. There are parts of the yard (around the house and deck) that are still green and lush although quickly being overrun with weeds. However, its the other areas of the back yard that I really dont know what to do with. Basically half of my back yard no longer grows grass. There is ground cover but it is some type of weed that is super slow growing and has petals that remind you over clover but isnt. It also grows on what looks like some type of vine system that is thin and sits basically on the ground. Its hard to explain because I dont believe it really is a vine. Anyway, the areas affected by this plant are completely covered but covered very thin and you can see the soil beneath it. For example, I bought scotts turf gaurd with plus 2 weed control. It was supposed to be applied wet so it can adhere to the leaves of the plants but this area is so thing that all the granules just fell through and are now lawing on the dirt below. Grass doesnt seem to want to grow here. Someone told me that it looks like when they cleared the area that they also cleared away most of the top soil. I mentioned dethatching (heavy thatch over most of my yard), aerating and then reseeding but this person told me to just seed in Feb and forget about it. I really want a nice yard so that doesn't seem like the best course of action really... With an area like the one I described would it be best to use roundup on the whole area and give it a few weeks and then order a load of topsoil and till it in with the existing soil and start over from scratch? The weeds win - I dont know what is the best thing to do. I am rambling I guess but I dont know a lot about lawn care so let me know any other details I need to add and i'll do my best to out that information in there. Thanks btw I am in KY - zone 6 in case that makes any difference.
lawn care problems? we recently spent alot of money for sod" kentucky bluegrass" it looked beautifull for a while , we got all sorts of comments. Now crabgrass and what i think is bermuda grass is making it look like crap. I have a few bear spots from spreader accidents, but my question is what to do, i hate to lose the lawn after we paid all this money for it, should i put down scotts turfbuilder now or put seed in bear spots, im not sure pleeeeeeeeeeze help
lawn care>? i am in ma. my lawn is in pretty bad shape. when should i seed? when should i put down the scotts product that prevents crab grass? in which order?
Lawn Care Help For Beginner? my lawn is pretty thin and yellowish. i just got some patch up seeds, and scotts turf builder, but it never seems to help. it says not to do if expected to rain within 24 hours but to do in the morning or when grass is damp. i also have a BIG patch from an old garden in which i want to put lawn seed. whats the best way to plant grass seed that is blue cause its the mulch combo, do i still cover it with dirt or just leave it out.
Lawn Care help!(read below)? Okay so our lawn is not the best, and we need something to help make it better we have used scotts turf builder last season, but it did not help really our lawn is not horrible but there is some blank spots near the edges of our front lawn so what type of fertilizer and seeds should we buy and how often should you cut and water your lawn during spring/summer to keep it healthy and what can you do in the winter to keep your lawn healthy please reccomened any products to use as well as tips! THANKS~
Lawn care question - should I seed this season or in the spring? I know that fall is one of the best times to seed your lawn but I have gotten a late start on laying down Scotts Turf Builder with wintergaurd. This is the bag with the weed control added. It says on the bag that I should wait 4 weeks after applying before seeding the lawn. In 4 weeks it will be approaching mid November and I am concerned that this will be too late to try and seed before it is too cold. I am in KY and we have already had a few nights in the lower 40s and upper 30s. I have already applied the product to the front yard but now I am wondering if I should just focus on seeding the back lawn instead of applying the Wintergaurd and then next Spring I can apply a weed controller product. 1. Will it be too late to seed the front lawn in early to mid November in KY (zone 6). 2. Should I forget the Scotts product in the back yard and instead just get the seed laid down instead? Thanks - any other help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help, guys. This is an existing lawn and I have already bought a 50lb bag of k 31 fescue. Apparently a popular choice around here and recommended to me by a couple of people. I guess once this Scotts works and nukes all the weeds then I will just have to deal with bare spots until I can seed that area in the spring.
Fall Lawn care next step? I live in nj.. its fall and not exactly cold out yet but getting there. I typically do the scotts 4 step program of fertilizing. I recently used a power rake and de-thatched my yard. I probably should re-seed after de-thatching as it's pretty thin now. What should my next step be? I have heard diff opinions.. some say re-seed and fertilize, some say lime it before the winter, some say just the fertilizer with winterguard. Any suggestions?
Please advise on proper lawn care for stickers and thorns? I am trying to kill these weeds that have very sharp stickers with thorns in my Mom's yard. I bought a weed killer for emerging weeds from Scott's that attached to the hose and sprayed it a few days ago. I don't want to kill the grass she currently has. I read that the stickers do not like competition and that the soil needed to be healthy with lots of grass so the stickers would not have room to grow. How can I feed the lawn easily without killing it? How hard is it to spread grass seeds? What product can I use that is attached to the hose for distribution to feed the lawn and kill the weeds at the same time? This is the product I used a few days ago: http://www.scotts.com/smg/catalog/productTemplate.jsp?proId=prod10280044&itemId=cat50064
School me on proper shady lawn care? Here are some particulars: live in PA, have about a third of an acre with about a 10, 50-60 year old trees in my yard. There's a mix of grass, moss, weeds, and other organic matter (acorns, twigs, needles, etc) on the ground now. I'm trying to grow grass effectively. This is the third spring we've been here, and in the previous two years, I've put down random 2-3 pound bags of grass to try to get some of the repair started. It's pretty spotty and I did notice that this spring, some of the seed that I planted in the past 2 years had surprisingly began to emerge! But it's still pretty thin. I'm not interested in tearing up the whole lawn and starting from scratch. I'm interested in perhaps trying some of those new products like Scotts EZ Seed, but want to perhaps mix it with another seed to a) control costs, and b) have a grass that can grow fast, but live throughout the year and remain after the grounds thaw in the winter. Is this doable? If so, what are your tips to help my partial lawn grow into a nice, thick lawn? BQ, I just spread some weed 'n feed in my front lawn, how long should I wait to spread seed so that the new seed won't burn from the fertilizer? I appreciate the input. But I will also add that my neighbors have GREAT lawns. So my physical attributes don't matter TOO much. I'm just wondering how I can get over the hump! :)!
Will December too late for winterizing (Northern New Jersey)? We live in the northern portion of New Jersey. Our lawn care provider, Scott Lawn Services, applied Turf Builder Pro Winterizer on Dec. 10, 2007 and insisted that the timing was appropriate, even though we had measurable snow on Nov. 10,18, Dec 2, 4, and 5. I am wondering if our lawn can really benefit from it as suggested.
Can I pay someone to water my lawn? I am moving out-of-town and will be leasing my house for at least a year. I would like a lawn care service to take care of my grass while I am away. I received an add from Scotts, but they only mention things like fertilization, weed control, and overseeding. So I am assuming I would be responsible to water the lawn regularly myself. I am definitely not leaving that in the hands of my leasees. Do I have to find and pay a separate service to take care of the watering or should a lawn care service like Scotts have that included? Does such a watering service even exist? Keep in mind that the leasees would be responsible for the water bill, so using water from my house would cost them money. So this would have to be some kind of water service similar to a pool water service. Separated water from a truck, not the house.
Lawn care....any suggestions? I bought this house 2 1/2 years ago and I am going into my 3rd season with the lawn. I have lot's of clay dirt and that's a battle on it's own. I have used Scots steps each year and it's improved a great deal, I also used some liquid fertilizers during the summer months for roots and color, strength etc. I am working on patching bare spots...most of them are 12inX12in. I usually dig out 1/2 to 1 inch of the clay and put in a mixture of top organic top soil moisture with a good Quality seed (Scott's premium mix) and starter fertilizer. I make sure the entire lawn (1 arce) is well watered through the dry months.... so I have that covered! The problem: It looks spotty in places, different colors and it's not uniform, there are large patches that are great, healthy, thick, green grass like a golf course but in some areas for no apparent reason look discolored and weak. why is that...and is there anything that can be
PLEASE HELP !!!! Which job should I take? I have 2 job offers on the plate. 1 is Comcast. I would be an inside customer service rep. it pays 12 an hour plus some commissions. I get free cable and it is very close to the house. the work load is not very stressful. option 2 is an outside salesrep for scotts lawn care. i would make 620 a week salary plus good commissions. gas would be reimbursed for my driving. workload march thru june is hectic. scotts net income has also dropped over the past 3 years in extreme amounts but net sales steadily increased. plus it is further away from where I live now. my previous job was commission only outside sales which i was 'ok' at. any advice would be appreciated.
How can I kill dandelions that have taken over my lawn? The previous owners of the house we moved into a couple of years ago hadn't taken good care of the lawn. It is covered with dandelions that seem inpossible to get rid of. Because there are so many of them, pulling them by hand or spraying with Roundup one by one isn't an option. In prior years I've tried the Scott's Steps 1-4 products, which haven't helped. Ideally, I'd like to find a natural solution rather than a chemical solution to use on the lawn because I have pets and children. Also, please don't tell me that the only thing to do is tear up the lawn and start from scratch! It's not in our current budget. Thanks.
19 can't find a job! Why aren't there any jobs for teens? Why aren't any jobs for teens? For 2 years since I was 17 I have been applying everywhere from McDonald's, Target, Walmart, Burger King, Wendy's, Scotts Lawn Care, Advance Auto Parts, Napa, and literally over 300 other places in my town and the next town and yet I still can't find a job! When I go into McDonald's all I see are Adults in there 30s and 40s working there, same with Burger King, Walmart, Target, etc. I can't even get an interview! None of my friends have jobs either all of us are trying to go to College but we can't afford it! Since there are no jobs! What should I do? Why are some many adults working minimum wage?
How often should I fertilize my lawn? I bought a new home recently and the previous owners never really took care of the yard besides just mowing it. The grass is nice and green in some spots, and it others its pretty dry. Not too mention a lot of clover, chickweed, and regular weeds. I put down Scotts turf builder a couple weeks ago. It really doesnt seem to be making a difference. How often do I need to fertilize? The next time I fertilize I want to put down weed and feed to kill all the weeds.
why would Scotts Grass Seed Company even tell their customers to cut back on the watering after seed germinate? am getting conflicting view points or opnions on this..first of all the soil is mostly clay dirt...that have..and am using fescue seed. I put down the seed at the first week of September..and so has had well over 1 month now to establish..but since we have been still having fairly warm days in autumn...but cool nights..my lawn care person just advised me to water EVERY day still for next 3-4 weeks..but i called Scotts to just confirm and they are saying that its okay to do that..but not really needed..they say it is best to cut back on the watering to 2-3 times per week after the seed has germinated..but how this is likely that a grass seed company would advise NOT WATERING THE SEEDLINGS EVERY DAY?
How long does sod take to take root? and....abt new sod? How long before I can ignore it and have my auto sprinkler system take care of it. When I water sod everyday, is it necessary to lift it up and water the ground below it? Suppose I am watering 10 sq feet with a hose, how long should I water the area? Can I use Scotts starter for the soil below as fertilizer and Scotts Enriched lawn soil as the soil below? Any experience with these products? They work? Any substitutes? Any tips when I go to buy sod? Does Home Depot sell it anymore?
Lawn weed control and seeding? Its that time of year where my lawn needs to be taken care of. right now its a mess. there are parts where the grass id growing great and parts where it is completely burnt. also it is littered with crabgrass and other types of weeds. I have went out and gotten weed b gon weed killer(the kind that doesnt kill the grass) and scotts turf builder plus weed control. I have 2 questions 1. which should i apply first 2. how much time should i allow before applying the second one thanks!
Keeping a Green lawn? A few weeks ago i put some scotts super turf builder fertilizer on my lawn along with some grass seeds. After getting it cut today i noticed how pretty and green it was....it looked like plush green rug. I have to admit that im proud of myself because this is my first home and the first time that i have ever attempted to take care of a lawn and just a few weeks ago the grass was so yellow and dry. My question is how do i maintain that pretty green plush look? I havent been watering it everyday but then it hasent been that hot either...not yet anyway. Should i buy more fertilizer and grass seeds or should i just water it everyday once the weather gets hotter? Also i saw a some seeds called kentucky blue glass and i thought about buying that but i thought maybe im jumping gun being that im a rookie at this. Any suggestion on what i should do to maintain my lawn is appreciated? Thanks!
Michigan Agriculture Test? Does anyone know how "hard" the MI Agriculture Test is for a career at Scott's Lawn Care, or any other position that requires you to have that certification? I have to take the test soon here, and I'm afraid I might fail! Could you give me a few Qs? Thanks
How do I revive my lawn? Hello all, I have a question about a remedy for my lawn. Here’s a quick background. The previous owner of my house did not take care of the lawn at all. I have about a half acre of lawn. The front yard is mostly St. Augustine grass. At the center it’s St. Augustine, and around the edges there are Bermuda and weeds creeping in. Near the foundation there is some Tall Fescue (that was my bad, I needed a filler grass for dirt spots and I just randomly picked it up at Home Depot). The old owner said he chose St. Augustine for the front because it does well in shade and we have two full grown trees in the front yard that provide some shade. The side yard is all Bermuda with a lot of weeds. The backyard is the same story, but with way more weeds. In fact it is nearly all weed at this point. He said he chose Bermuda for the back because it is almost all in the sun. P.S. I hate having 2 different kinds of grass. So I’m looking for advice on the best way to revive the entire yard. I have a friend who does a lot of lawn work who recommended discing up my yard to give it air and break up some of the weeds, smoothing it out with a box blade, and overseeding it with Bermuda along with Scotts turfbuilder. That’s fine and dandy for the backyard and side yard if that is true, but what do I do about my front yard. I have been told St. Augustine does not exist in seed form. Your wise advice would be appreciated. Please do not offer opinion, I’m looking only for solid, experience filled answers. Thanks!
Creeping charlie all over my yard - HELP? I have a large yard with a variety of perennials. I also have english ivy in spots. What can I do that will stop this invasive weed without killing everything else? Pulling it out would be impossible (my yard is too big) .....and plus I've tried that in spots-it doesn't help! Is there something I can spray on the beds and the grass to get rid of it? Or should I call Scott's lawn service and have them take care of it?
is it really impossible that bio-engineers cannot come up with? sod / grass that is not susceptible to bugs, weeds, too much/too little water? i believe that if they did scotts, ortho and all related lawn care companies and products would go out of business and thats why the weeds will grow under ANY circumstances but the grass dies the minute the soil isnt perfect, there's too much/too little water, etc.... especially here in florida where s**t grows year round i mean bugs only eat the grass thats planted, never the weeds? someone is holding back here. i want to know who it is. also out of nowhere i had a mushroom sprout up that was 10 inches across.
I think I did something bad to my lawn...? Last night, I put down a Scott's brand Weed and Feed. I didn't even think about seeding my yard (the previous owner took no care of the yard and has lots of weeds and bare spots). It says on the bag not to seed for 1 month. Is there any more I can do in the meantime?
Dog sick from Scotts Weed & Feed and Pre-Emergent? I have been careful not to let her in the yard but I think she ate one or two granules, not sure if it's the Scotts or the Pre-Emergent. The Pre-Emergent is yellow and her vomit was yellow so figure that's what it was. She's fine now but I will NEVER use any of these products again on my lawn, it can go dead for all I care. I do wonder how long it stays in the ground...just want to know when the pup can go out and play in the yard again safely. Thanks!
How does my essay look (so far) :)? Throughout life people of all colors, backgrounds, and beliefs have been discriminated against. Discrimination can come in many forms, such as how you are treated all the way to how you are viewed. The reason for discrimination can be varied but likely rely on the discriminator's beliefs and how they were raised. One of the common categories people are discriminated against is smoking, whether you smoke or not it can be a problem. It is more likely if you are a smoker though. This type of discrimination takes place in the workplace for the majority of the time. Based on the employers' beliefs it can be anything from the effects on profit all the way to simply not wanting to support bad habits. Another area this takes places is in the general public. Daily commuters may view smokers as unintelligent or low class. At times people fail to recognize they keep smoking for a reason; nicotine. These common misconceptions lead people to believe smokers are bad people. In the workforce Employers have one focus; profit. Smokers can alter or affect the companies' profit in various ways. One of the ways being health care. Health care is a benefit included with many jobs that the worker benefits by having their healthcare bills partially paid. Companies' excuses along the lines of healthcare claim that the employer will have to pay out more to the insurance company for healthcare due to unhealthy results of tobacco. Some of the possible results of smoking are Cancer, Heart Disease, Stroke, Lung Disease, Peripheral Vascular Disease, and Mouth diseases. Another reason for firing/ not hiring employees that smoke is customer satisfaction. Smoke tends to cling to clothes and that may bother the customer. First off there is the possibility that the customer is allergic to smoke. Second, even if the customer isn't allergic to smoke they may be aggravated by the odor. If the company is losing money due to the employee and yet is paying them; the company is better off firing or not hiring smokers. Also Moralists may view the company as immoral and not shop there. Smokers can damage a companies profit and reputation due to this and many other reasons. In the court case of Scott Rodrigues v. The Scotts Company, LLC the plaintiff; Rodrigues is being fired for smoking. In December 2005, Scotts Company announced that the company would no longer accept employees that smoke due to health insurance costs and promoting a healthy lifestyle. In the beginning of 2006, Rodrigues applied for a job as a lawn care technician and was hired. In the month of August 2006, Rodrigues was issued a random drug test. He tested positive for nicotine, the drug found in tobacco. Rodrigues brought this to court under Count IV, pursuant to 29 U.S.C. § 1132(a). This was violation of a Massachusetts privacy statute by banning a legal, non-work-related activity and violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. The plaintiff lost the lawsuit. Thirty U.S. States including the District of Columbia protect smokers' rights. Therefore they cannot be fired.
How often should I fertilize and spread weed killer? I am new to lawn care. We had bluegrass sod placed last year and it took root very well. I guess it is now time to feed it.... There's very little weed growing (1000 SQF of lawn and 3 or 4 instinces of a weed growing). A product like Vigoro or Scotts Spray Weed & Feed, how often do I need to apply that? Should I apply the Weed & Feed once and then only the Spray feed there after (if so how often)? Thanks - Sean
Lawn and garden question? The east and west sides of my house have tree's so those sides do not get much light. Is there any plants that I can grow in the flower beds on those sides of the house that require very little sun. I honestly don't care if they flower or not, green foliage is fine. Just something that will grow other than weeds. Also, On those sides of the hose the lawn does not grow well and has many bare spots which I have seeded with native grasses to no avail. Is there any specific grass seed I can start in that shady area that will grow. I have tried Scott's shady grass seed but it didn't take. I have some kind of grass that has taken over the back yard, zoysa (probably didnt spell that right) or burmuda I think. I love that part of the lawn. Its really thick and does not groe fast. It is the last to green up and stays brown for a while but it is very easy to care for. I have tried to trasplant it into the front yard but I believe nieborhood dogs keep digging it up. I keep finding dog poop every where on my lawn. A lot of it. Is there any thing I can do to keep every ones dogs form digging up the plugs I tranzplantplant. And why cant people keep there dogs from roaming. There is a leash law in this town.
How do you get Adults to take a Teen seriously? I am 19 and I have been trying to start several small business since I was 17. My first was a small indie label for Metal Music (think I was trying something to big at the time) but many Metal bands who's members were mostly in there late 20's early 30's didn't want to sign to a label ran by a 17 year old. For the past year I have been trying to run a lawn care/lawn mowing business. I had professional flyer's made, door hangers, business cards etc. I am polite to everyone I talk to, I shaker they're hand look them in the eye, yet because I am only 18 most of them won't hire me! How do you get Adults to take you seriously! I dress well, I have a clean short hair cut, yet I can't get any adult to take me seriously! I hate how 90% of adults assume all teens are rude, lazy, etc. Adults always say things like "Why should I trust a kid to mow my lawn when I could call Scott's" or "Your really young I don't know if I could hire you" or "When I called I was expecting someone older to show up" etc!
Scott Gomez to quit hockey and mow lawns? Stereotying! Anyway does this guy have the drive anymore to play hockey? Maybe it's just the games I have the chance to watch but it seems like Gomez just doesn't care about hockey anymore, he goes out gives a below average performance and does the same thing the next go around. In the shootout I have never seen such a poor attempt at a shot as Gomez put on tonight.
Weed Control in August? My fiance and I recently split, and he always used to take care of the lawn. So now I'm left with a garage full of fertilizers and lawn chemicals and a lawn that needs attention. Neither of my neighbors take good care of their yards, so I've got creeping charlie sneaking in again. I've got some leftover Scotts Turf Builder 2 plus Weed Control. Is that something that I can use on my lawn right now? I've found some Summer Guard something or another, but I'm not sure of the weed controlling properties of this one. I'd like something I can use with a hose. Suggestions?
what weed killer can i use on my zoysia sod? minor details first: i live in south/central texas, the zoysia is pretty much in full sun, and i "planted" the sod in mid march... now that i have the actual sodding behind me, i have a new frustration. there are weeds growing between the "cracks" in the sod and coming up through some sections of the zoysia itself. as far as the sod itself, if i were to pick up the sod pieces, i can see that the zoysia is rooting down with the white roots, but they are still not "secured" enough to make it difficult to pull them up if i needed to. how do i go about fertilizing or weed killing on the new sod without damaging my lawn? i bought the vigoro weed and feed, but after reading the website, i saw that the product only works on broadleaf weeds. the ones i have are more like a crabgrass or similar skinny weed. what should i use? i also have a scotts fertailizer "bonus s" i think that i'm tempted to try instead. i'd like to get my lawn as established as possible sooner than later, but i dont want to weeds to keep popping up. i'd love some insight on the zoysia lawn and how i can care for it at this point.....thanks!
How can I improve my essay? How can I improve this? Dwellings The home is the place where people live, store items, and find shelter. It is also where our domestic affections are centered, where the householder’s personality is reflected in a contained space. Home is where outside matters can leave us to focus on we care about most. Scott Fitzgerald's book, The Great Gatsby, contains a fictional story by about the decline of the American dream. The characters, Jay Gatsby, Nick Caraway, the Buchanan’s, and the Wilsons all keep homes that reflect their unique characters. Since many key events are chronicled in the homes of the persons, each dwelling is crucial to understanding the setting, story and disposition of the each person in the novel. The book is set in New York. The majority of the homes are placed on West Egg, "a slender riotous island which extends itself due east of New York". The origin of its name comes from the placement of two egg-shaped islands outside of New York that are parallel to each other on east and west ends. West egg is home to those who have recently come into great wealth, because of this they spend their money frivolously, engage in loose conduct, and have few worries in life. Gatsby and Nick live here. Yet, Nick is the only one who describes it as the “least fashionable of the two”, because of the garish taste of its residents. East egg is where Tom and Daisy Buchanan live. Nick Caraway describes the homes there as “… white palaces of fashionable East egg...” Nick Caraway, the narrator of the story, lives in West Egg, (at the very tip), in between two much more expensive homes. As a young man (he turns thirty during the course of the novel) from Minnesota, Nick travels to New York in 1922 to learn the bond business. On his right was Gatsby’s home, of which he had a partial view of his lawn. But Gatsby wasn’t the only one richer than him, he was surrounded by millionaires. His home was nothing in comparison to their large mansions. He had ‘a weather beaten bungalow’ that cost eighty dollars a month. Like Nick, the house is small, aging, overlooked, modest, and quiet. His neighbor Mr. Gatsby had weekly parties that lasted till the next morning. But Nick’s house was only visited a few times by Gatsby and had one occasion when he had his cousin and Gatsby over for tea. As his home had been overlooked so had he, but his quiet reflective attitude also made him the perfect candidate for a narrator. Everyone he meets seems to tell him information he did not ask for or did not even want to know. Whereas Nick is modest, his neighbor, Jay Gatsby, is the complete opposite. Mr. Gatsby owns a home that is “a colossal affair by any standard.” Nick describes it as being an imitation of Hotel de Ville in Normandy. Hotel de Ville is French for, “city hall”, so one could imagine how massive the building was. Gatsby’s house had a brand new tower on one side, under a thin bed of ivy, a marble swimming pool, and more than forty acres of greenery. The whole front of the house is positioned to catch the light. Yet it only took him three years to make the money to buy it. It was filled with, “period bed rooms swathed in silk and floral arrangements, dressing rooms, pool rooms and bathrooms with sunken baths.” Gatsby’s bedroom had a bath with a study area and cupboard in the wall. His own residence was actually quite modest, as the most expensive items were a grooming set on his dresser, which was plated in dull gold. Gatsby’s personal room reveals a lot about his character. His room is simple, yet he keeps a monstrous mansion filled with people. He throws parties, yet doesn’t mingle with the guests. He has a great deal of wealth yet very few know where it really comes from. This shows how he is putting on a sort of façade to impress someone though he only needs little. Nick noted that his “…personality is an unbroken series of gestures.” Nick soon finds out that Gatsby has acquired everything to impress Daisy who did not marry him previously because he was not rich. But rather than move on Jay has tried to recreate the past, which is not possible. In East egg, Daisy, along with her husband Tom, and their child, lives in a cheerful red-and-white Georgian Colonial mansion overlooking the bay. Their lawn starts at the beach and ends at the front door. The greenery wrapped around the sides of the building. In front was a line of French windows, coated in a reflective gold. There is an assortment of expensive furniture within their home but not much else is explained about the Buchanan’s home in detail. Like their home they are consumed with wealth but have little regard for others. Both husband and wife have affairs. Daisy has a new relationship with Gatsby, and Tom has had many affairs and was recently with his mechanics wife. Between New York and West Egg lies a desolate land. Nick describes this location as, “a place where ash grows like wheat.” This point is the residence of George and Myrtle Wilson. They live in George’s shop, where he serves gas to Tom whenever they go out to the city. Their home is not even described in detail because of its insignificance. The whole area is described as being made of ash. The only distinctive object is a billboard for an oculist, which has a pair of eyes with large spectacles that seems to watch the valley, which may be a metaphor for God. Obviously this is the flux of poor people left from the figurative burning of money buy the rich. And this reflects its owner perfectly. George is a simple man, but he is overly submissive, and lacks the colorful character that the others possess. His wife, Myrtle, longs to escape this grey land and looks forward to each meeting with her affair, Tom. Throughout the book the great Gatsby homes play a crucial role in telling the story. The author mentions in fragments details about each dwelling which is placed each time at the proper moment of present action, for maximum effectiveness. The homes kept by the persons involved reinforce the established personalities of the characters. Gatsby is eventually assassinated in his marble pool, by Myrtles husband after Daisy runs over her in Gatsby’s car. The façade created Mr. Gatsby is shown to be superficial when no one comes his funeral, but his home revealed this previously by the number of people who are there as moochers, leeching off Gatsby’s wealth but not proving to be true friends. The Buchanan’s retreat back into their carefree lifestyle and Nick returns to the Midwest where he is more accustomed.

What's in the liquid fertilizer sprayed onto yards by Scott's Lawn Care? Is it dangerous to humans? HELP!? have several questions.
