low priced fertilizer spreader other than scotts? anyone know if there are other lower priced fertilizer broadcast spreaders other than scotts? my main reason for asking for low price is that i don't use the fertilizer spreader every day (4x a year).
How often can I or should I put fertilizer on my lawn? We put the dry fertilizer on ourselves with a spreader. I was just wondering how often can I put it on when I'm not seeing the results I want in a couple of weeks. Our neighbors lawns seem so much greener and healthier than ours. Would power raking help or any other suggestions? We live in Utah, in new neighborhood. Neighbors have new lawns as well, and do them themselves. We may have differerent mixture of grass, don't know.
Fertilizer - Why is it ok to just spread fertilizer rather than put deep in soil close to roots? I notice that all instructions i have read about putting fertilizer on my lawn (e.g. Scotts Turf Builder Fertilizer and Weed Control) always says to use a spreader (or dropper) to put the fertilizer on the "surface" of the lawn. From my understanding fertilizer contains valuable nutrients for the lawn (its food for the grass) and so i would best think it would work better if the fertilizer was closest to the lawn's roots found far underneath the surfce. So how then is tossing fertiizer on the surface of the grass useful? And wouldn't weeds just use the fertilizer as food too? If it burns them chemically because the fertilizer is so close to them then why do instructions mentions to use fertilizer in a mix with new seedlings -- you dont get closer to that and would that then burn the new seedling because the fertilizer is so close?
Is it really worth the extra money to get a professional grade broadcast spreader?? I am a landscaper and use to using the cheaper broadcast spreaders that you find at Home Depot, Scotts Speedy Green 3000 for example. But I see a lot of landscapers hauling around these more heavy duty looking, round barrel shaped broadcast spreaders with rubber tires all the time, and was wanting to know the reason why? I checked the prices of these spreaders and they are nearly 3 x the price of the Scotts Brand Spreaders you find at Home Depot. Are they really worth it, if you are doing a lot of seed and fertilizer spreading? Do they hold a lot more seed? Do they spread more accurately? More evenly? What exactly?? Why?? Thanks for you answers! Why do professional landscapers feel these heavy duty spreaders are worth the considerable extra money??? Why do professional landscapers feel these heavy duty spreaders are worth the considerable extra money??? To the first answerer, I have been using the "push kind" previously. What I am talking about here is the push kind that they are using is more "professional grade" . Where as the push spreader I am purchasing now at Home Depot costs around $50.00. These types I am seeing them use are $150.00. I am not using the hand held type!!
Using a broadcast spreader when it's windy? I want to do a weed-and-feed on our lawn tonight, because it's supposed to rain tomorrow and I won't have to water it in, but it's really windy, and I'm afraid it will blow the fertilizer/weed killer all over. My husband says the spreader is so low to the ground that it won't make a difference. It's almost dark out, so I don't think I'll get to it anyway, but can anyone tell me if it's okay to fertilize when it's windy?
Using Nu-Gro ProTurf Fertilizer (25-3-10) on Lawn Grass -- Is it ok? Hi. I found a product at the Garden store that was an incredible bargin. The product is fertilizer with the values 25-3-10 (for Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potasium). I was going ot go with Scotts but they are too expensive. I notice the Potasium in this product is a little higher than normal which is good for protecting against drought and disease (e.g. in hot summers and Fall/Winter). Here is a PDF of this products tech specs straight from the manufacturers website: http://www.nu-groturf.com/specsheets/ProTurf/english/SPEC_4838501_E.pdf Can someone tell me is this good to use on my grass lawn. And even MORE iMPORTANTLY can someone tell me what value i should set my rotary spreader for fertilizing my lawn (my spreader only has values from 1-10 which is standard for most spreaders but noticed this product didnt mention what value). Thanks
Fertilizer with weed killer, will the weed killer if it falls on my impatients or shrubbery beds kill it all? All say 'now' is the time to put on the fertilizer and weed killer.(28-3-3 is what I bought) But now I am being told that 'if' this application gets into the beds where I have already planted impatients and tomatoe plants or where i have existing shrubs/azaleas etc.. that it will 'kill' these too. I don't understand..when i spot use weed killer..it specifically says it won't 'kill the grass' as this granular stuff says too...point is..i expect my lawn to turn brown in places because of the weed killer but hopefully the grass will fill it in eventually (right?) ..i don't intend to purposely put this application 'into' the beds..but even with the spreader having the option for me to turn off one side..still i can't be so careful..some is going to get into the beds/plus what about around the trees?(when I had services in the past..i can't believe that they didn't get any into any of these areas..so what to do? HELP..TODAY is when i want my hubby to apply all this.
what ratio to mix lawn fertilizer with ammonium sulfate? I would like to know if anyone has experience mixing fertilizers. I have a small hand held broadcast fertilizer spreader and wanted to know at what ratio to mix the fertilizer in it when i apply. I have Schultz Super 21-0-0 ammonium sulfate with coated urea and also primarily use Scotts Turf Builder With PLUS 2 Weed Control 28-1-4. I like the effects of the Schultz quick ability to green up the lawn and also the weed control and results I get from Scotts. I fertilize about once a month and have primarily used the Scotts but wanted to mix in the Schultz. I have read some articles of people who just follow up a balanced lawn fertilizer with a 21-0-0 ammonium sulfate but it seems like that would be too much Nitrogen since Scotts carries a 28-1-4. Thanks for the helpful advice.
Kids and fertilizer/weed killer ... am I overreacting? We were playing at my neighbor's house with 7 kids under 5 in their backyard tonight when her husband came out with a spray weed killer, covering areas of the yard/garden very close to where the kids were playing. There was a strong breeze. I was a little uneasy but stayed until hubby got the fertilizer spreader and began to fertilize the lawn where we were all standing and playing. I left with my kids because it makes me really uneasy to have such small bodies around the chemicals. Is this silly? I've read about the potential effects of the known carcinogens in fertilizers, but don't have anything specific about immediate harmful effects. Any information would be appreciated, thanks.
how important is spreading out ample amounts of granular "starter fertilizer"? also, why some companies such as Scotts use powder form,,while others use Granular form? which is better and why ? (spreading out by a drop spreader or a rotary spreader?) pleasee xplain can you really put down too much starter fertilizer in the middle autumn? IS IT BETTER TO HAVE PUT DOWN SLIGHTLY TOO MUCH THAN TOO LITTLE? please explain what you can.. thanks for your answers!
advantage to liquid herbacides and fertilizers as opposed to granular? I see many professional lawn companies hauling chemicals around in tanks in the back of their trucks and spraying the lawn and plants that way. I am use to spreading out granular fertlizer and pre-emergent and fertilizer. Is there any advantage to the way the "lawn professionals" do it by spraying out liquids from a hose and the way I do it by spreading out the Scotts brand of granular herbicides and fertilizers with a spreader?
Lawn fertilizer help! ? I bought this lawn fertilizer that requires a spreader. do i need a spreader? or can i just throw it around the grass
How to get weeds out of my yard? I just bought a new house and the previous owners did no lawn care at all. The yard is full of weeds. I need to get rid of the so i can plant grass. There is some grass that l would like to keep? any ideas. I have a spreader so if there is a fertilizer or some thing i can use.
Quality Lawn Feed Spreader - with gears? Can anyone recommend a good quality, durable lawn feed spreader with gears to regulate flow as the spreader is wheeled over the lawn? I have used two different spreaders so far, both of which have had drawbacks… I bought a light green coloured spreader from Wilkinsons (their own packaging) last year that had flow settings / gears. Flow stopped when the spreader stopped - good. This worked OK, but when I got it out in the Spring, the axle had gone rusty and seized… this must have been due to moisture in the air in my shed, as it hadn’t been wet as such. I then bought a Scotts Evergreen spreader, all plastic construction – good - but no gearing. The problem with this is that the fertilizer continues to drop out when the spreader is stationary (I didn’t realise this at first, and have scorched a couple of patches on my lawn), and excess fertilizer is also released if the spreader jerks for any reason. It’s therefore awkward / risky to use. I tried walking round in a spiral, to avoid stopping at edges, but being wary not to go over the same grass twice, I’ve ended up with yellowy streaks where I didn’t cover at all (I am using Scotts Evergreen Complete, which makes the grass greener). Ideally, I am hoping there may be a spreader available with gears that is of all plastic construction so it won’t rust. Any suggestions based on good experience would be useful. I must have gears.
Grass seed, lime, fertilizer question? Ok - First off, I live in Georgia - I have a 2 acre yard, full sun for all of it. It's not a new years. It's been a "lawn" since 1979. There is plenty of grass, but I want my yard to look really good this year. I just got in from spreading about 5 bags of 10-10-10 fertilizer on it - I had my spreader about 1/2 way open - I was able to get about 3/4 of the yard. I'm going to go buy another 2-3 bags to finish. I also spread a handful of fertilizer around the base of the new trees that I planted last year. My question is, have I done enough? Do I need to spread just as much LIME as well? What exactly does LIME do? Is it too late to spread gass seed?
My new lawn grass is growing in unevenly - should I be concerned? Hi - I am about two weeks into a lawn renovation project. I rough-graded the turf, removed any loose stones, spread topseed using a Scott's broadcast spreader, added plenty of topsoil, then water & finally Scott's starter fertilizer. I know it is early, and the results thus far are mixed. In some areas, the grass has sprouted nicely. In other areas, nothing yet but small stubbles. Should I be concerned or do sections of grass tend to grow in at different speeds? Using the Scott's spreader, I feel pretty confident that the grass seed was spread evenly. Thank you.
Alternative fertilizer and methods for large lawns? Greetings all. This question is probably best answered by someone who farms, maintains golf courses/parks, or has acreage. I'm a city boy moved to TX trying to learn your secrets. My neighbors and I have about 2 acres of lawn. Buying fertilizer by the bag (i.e. 5,000 ft coverage for $20) just doesn't make sense...particularly if you're doing it 3-4 times a yr per local experts. I had my Dallas area soil tested by those brainy people at A&M (thank you). It turns out that my P & K are ideal -- which apparently is very common in this area due to the clay. They recommended 100% nitrogen. I guess too much P&K is bad and adding more is unecessary and unhealthy. Question: farmers must have to apply comparable fertilizer in bulk. And I know they do it for other things (herbicides, pest control). And I don't think they buy it by the bag at Lowes. Can I go somewhere and purchase a good comparable slow release fertilizer in bulk? Neil Sperry's brand (as an example) is a 24-0-0 w/ 60% slow release in granular form, but it's $34 bag times 20. http://www.neilsperry.com/pages/neil-sperrys-texas-best-fertilizers.html We've got an earthway broadcast spreader and can dial in exactly 1 or 2 lbs/1000 ft. And I live close to farm country here in the suburbs of Dallas. It sure would be nice to buy bulk of good quality fertilizer w/o the filler and costs. Anyone care to share their thoughts and recommendations? You'll help us out in convenience, cost, and curiosity. Richard
Is it cheating if I take my neighbor's ride-on seed spreader for a spin if my husband is there watching? My lawn (although nicely trimmed) really needs some new fertilizer and my neighbor has the most amazing looking seed spreader. It looks really exciting and I'm tired of pulling around the old used up one I have at home. My neighbor's is newer and looks really powerful. My husband knows I really want to try it out. I wouldn't want to try out the neighbor's seed spreader without him there cause that would seem shady...so would it be cheating if my husband was there to watch my while I rode it for a while? Thank you.
Will my grass grow back this year? Last week I put down my step 2 fertilizer, and I think my spreader was set to high and dispensed more fertilizer than necessary. Now, my lawn is burnt, (tinted brown, with a spots of dead grass) Will the dead spots grow back at all this year? Will my grass grown back and be green again this year? Will my step 3 in about 7 weeks help grow it back? I live in CT. This sucks. Any advice, comments, suggestions? Thanks in advance.
how do chemical fertilizer granules really benefit all the grass blades after spread out on the lawn? as a small bag of fertilizer by Vigoro..is suppose to cover 15,000 square feet..and i was spreading it out the other day with the spreader..and it was just shooting out a few here and there..but was wondering how THAT benefits ALL the grass blades and lawn? how it works? please explain what you can also, how is a better way to fertilize the lawn? maybe buy a chemical sprayer? how expensive and how much money can save? how to carry it around? thanks for your answers!
How to fill in barepots in a new lawn/ thicken up lawn in southern Ohio area? I built a new house last year, and at the end of the summer last year we had a terrible drought. About early Sept. when fall was coming, I planted my grass seed. It was a Tall Fescue/Ky Blue grass mix (called Urban Extacy by Southwest Landmark). The soil was like powder when I sewed the seed, put down straw and we got decent rain within days of planting, and it was not overly dry from then on. I still have a terrible looking lawn with many barespot (I am looking at bare dirt in many spots). Where do I start to get it to fill in to a nice lush lawn? More seed (what kind), fertilizer (what kind), lime. etc? All I know is to buy more seed, drop it in the spreader and start spreading. I know next to nothing about seed types, fertilizers, and lime. Please help, and keep in minde I have an acre and a half of yard with next to no shade, and watering that much lawn just isn't possible. Thanks, JW
What can I do about grass burned by weed 'n' feed? My weed 'n' feed spreader was not working properly when I put down weed 'n' feed, so now my back yard looks like a football field where the fertilizer burned the grass. I am mortified. Is there anything I can do, or just hope for a lot of rain, or am I stuck with an ugly yard for the season?
Solve this math problem? Sam bought a new fertilizer spreader for his yard. It has a dial on the handle that adjusts the flow of the fertilizer. The dial setting is from 0 to 10. He has learned that if he sets the dial to 10, then one bag of fertilizer will cover only 500 square feet of his yard. The setting varies inversely with area it will cover. How many square feet should one bag cover if the dial is set to 4?
scott lawn fertilizer....? i applied a Scott lawn fertizer to my lawn yesterday and i have to water it schedule tomorrow, but some grass are drying, or is it burnt, if i applied it much will it hurt my grass?what shall i do?please adise me soon to do what is necessary.but the label outside says it wont burn your grass(guaranteed). i used spreader too just for info.thnx and God bless.
DC motor with speed control???? I am trying to put a DC motor on my lawn fertilizer spreader. Here is my problem. I need to be able to adjust the output of the motor for the “throw” distance. I am thinking about 1/3 HP motor. Does anyone know if I can use an AC light dimmer for this control?, Probably not, that would be too easy. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thank you
Is Landscaping work dangerous to your health guys? I read the job description about 3 days ago and... I've been thinking a LOT. On the description, it stated that you would be required to spray + mix herbicides, fertilizers and insecticides. Either by hand or mechanical sprayers/spreaders. Ummm... ^ aren't these things very bad to your health? Would working in this kind of job for half a year to say; about a whole year effect your health in any negative ways? If so ^ , what would be the short and long term effects? Thanks.
what type of grub do I have? I went to fertilize my lawn yesterday and made one pass but it was too wet. When I brought my fertilizer spreader back into the garage I poured the fertilizer out to keep the spreader dry and noticed many small white, grub looking, worms. They were very small about a 1/4 of an inch long, but I did not notice a dark head. When I look online almost all of the pictures of grubs show a dark head. What are these worms...are they damaging to my lawn...and what should I use to get rid of them? They were not in the fertilizer, they were on my spreader...on the wheels, so they came from the grass.
What do you all think about Landscaping jobs? I read the job description about 3 days ago and... I've been thinking a LOT. Did I put enough fertilizer on my lawn? I recently used 'Lawncare' rotary spreader to spread Scotts 29-3-4 Turf Builder. I don't have Scotts spreader so I went to the store and checked out the opening on Scotts spreader when it is at a 3.5 setting. I tried to match the area of the opening to my own spreader at home. I figured that if my spreader's opening was the same in size as the Scott's spreader, then walking at a steady pace should be enough. I read the package and for my lawn, 3000 sq ft., I should have used 9 lbs, but I don't think I used that much?....Shoud I add more? How would I know if I put too little or too much? It's a generic fertilizer (i.e. works on different species) and is intended for a late spring fertilization (May-June).
Sprinkle Grass Seeds and Watch it grow? I am too lazy to plant grass seeds by using the comon practice of top soiling, adding fertilizer, and placing the seeds on top and then covering with some top soil (to keep birds away) and then watering....That is too much work. My grass looks a bit dead in areas and i just want to take the easy way out and just use a spreader to spray grass seeds all over the area and water. Is this good enough.. Will my lawn grow new grass blades because of this seeding style? Thanks
Is there a fertilizer, weed control, etc. that looks similar to rice? So the other day my mom said my neighbors was evil because he threw "rice" on her plants from his side of the fence. It was not rice, but it was white and look sort of similar to it. I would like to think positively and say maybe he was fertilizing his lawn or spreading weed control with his spreader which in turn got onto our side (iron fence between us to its the see through kind.) My other sister also thought maybe it's poison? My neighbor is crazy so I would not rule that out. I just want to know if there is a product that is similar to rice, what is it so I can see if it really is that, or should I take steps to figuring out what it is. We're not on speaking terms with the neighbors so yeah. Funny he didn't say anything because if we get anything on his lawn I'm sure he would freak out.
Why are there lines in my Lawn? (PICTURES INCLUDED)? Can someone tell me why my lawn's green coloring doesnt look uniform? Please see the pictures of my lawn here: http://www.spunge.org/~tony/mylawn/mygrass.htm As you can see in each picture there are visible lines (green strip and a brown strip) across my lawn. What is causing this and how do i fix the problem. ** NOTE: I should mention that i did apply Scotts Turf Builder Pro (which contains Fertilizer and Weed Control) and used a Spreader to apply it. This was 3 weeks ago. Interestingly those lines on my lawn follow the same pattern i used when using the spreader. I am not sure if this is conicidence or if somehow the spreader wasnt putting the fertilizer in those areas and so they thinned out (and became brown looking). IF ANYONE has any ideas let me know. Maybe i neeed aeration or more fertilizer or maybe i just need to rake the lawn so as to massage the soil to get it to come alive.

I Burned my Grass Lawn. Now what? I accidentally put too much fertilizer on my lawn because a large chunk of it went onto my lawn while i was preparing the spreader :( That exact spot is now fertilizer burned (completely brown/yellow grass). What are my best options now? Should i dig up the dead area and put new top soil and seeds in its place or should i water the entire area heavily and hope the grass grows again. I live in the Canada (Southwestern Ontario) and i am not quite sure what my grass is but it is either St. Augustine or Fescue. Thanks
Did we seed our yard right??? My husband and I are first time home owners. We were not happy with the amount of grass in our yard, so we attempted to seed it last weekend. We roughed up the yard with a rake, put down the fertilizer (with an automatic spreader), put down the seed (also with the spreader), put hay over it, and have been watering it twice a day. I know it has only been 6 days, but I am worried we did it wrong. It appears that most of the grass seed is still sitting on top of the dirt. Is it normal to be able to see the seeds almost a week later? Also, when should we start to see some growth? Thanks in advance!!!!
My Watermelon Plants are Wilting? I have 4 rows of watermelons that are around 6 weeks old. They are around 5-9 inches tall with many leaves but no vines. 2 rows get full florida sun all day long, the other 2 rows get about 80% of that much sun. The rows with less sun have bigger and healthier plants than the full sun rows. Some of the full sun plants are turning black on the edges and are wilting majorly - they look like they are about to die. What I've done is I use six 10 minute watering schedules , 10am-11:30am - 1pm -2pm - 4pm - 6pm. Ive used this for about 5 days now and I havent seen any results as far as healthier plants. My question is, Is the direct sun wilting the plants, or to much water or to much fertilizer? We used a spreader over each row of 30-30-30 that put probably 2-3lbs on each row of 15 hills. we also mixed 10 lbs of manure with 30lbs of dirt for each hill. All the fertilzer was watered into the soil before planting - and manure was tilled. When can i expect vines to grow?
Lawn fertilizing? For someone who is doing the lawn fertilizing for the first time, which spreader would you recommend - drop type or broadcaster/rotary type? If I apply fertilizer+weed control this weedend, when should I apply Grubex for grubs? The Grubex product bag says anytime between April & August, but my question is about timing of application of grubex with respect to application of fertilizer. Thanks in advance for the information.
Over-seed lawn or start over from scratch? Mid Summer, I saw that my lawn (once again) had a fungus which was causing fairly widespread brown discoloration. I applied Scott's Fungicide (dry, fertilizer type product with broadcast spreader) in the areas that were most affected. Unfortunately, the rest of the Summer was VERY dry (least amount of rain on record for 2 months straight). Now, the area that was most affected is dead. I really don't think it's dormant, just dead...but I won't know for sure until Spring. At this point, I'd like to over-seed the areas that appear to be dead, but I'm not sure if i should tear out the existing dead grass beforehand. We've already had a few frosts, but no freezes. Should I leave the existing dead grass, over-seeding the entire area and hope for the best in the Spring, or start all over by tearing out the dead grass and seeding in the Spring?
Scotts with Halts... Before April 10th... Also, seeding...? Hi everyone. I live in Westchester County in NY. Late last fall I applied Scotts Winter Fertilizer. I'm not sure what happened, if there was a leak in my spreader or what, but there are burnt out areas of my yard. So a couple questions. 1) I am going to put Scotts with Halts down this spring. I have my yard guy doing a spring cleanup between now and April 8th (he won't commit to an exact date right now). I want to wait for him to do that so he doesn't rake after I apply. Is April 8th too late to apply (the next week, weather wise, is supposed to be highs of mid 40s to mid 50s depending on the day. The extended forecast says that starting next Wed, it's supposed to jump up to mid to high 60s)? My forsythia just bloomed yesterday and I know that is the sign to put it down. Will waiting up to 2 more weeks be OK? 2) What about the brown burnt spots from last fall's fertilizing? Should I just live with them all summer and then reseed those areas next fall? Will those areas come back this spring? Another idea I had was to cover those spots with a sheet while I fertilize with Halts, then rake up the burnt grass and reseed this spring. The spots that are burnt are almost like footprints in a straight line. Not sure what I did. Of course, then those areas won't be protected from crabgrass, so that could be an issue if the grass doesn't thicken up quickly... which with a spring seeding, is certainly a concern. If you think those areas will bounce back, though, I won't go through the effort. What do you guys think about these 2 questions.
Why is my lawn turning brownish after fertilizing? I put down Scotts fertilizer with weed control, step 2, last thursday. Now, some parts of the grass are browning. I didn't go over the same spots more than once, but I have a feeling that my spreader disperser's more fertilizer than necessary when I hold down the "throttle" to open up the pit on the bottom of the spreader. Can this be true? Is the browning grass going to be totally dead soon? Is there anything I can do so my lawn doesn't brown any more, any ideas, suggestions, comments? Please respond.
Is my Grass seed dead? I live in soutwestern californa (bakersfield) and currently the average temperature is about 90' degrees and i planted it about a week ago for the first 5 days i watered my backyard for about 10 minutes in the afternoon (peak heat) and only recently have i been starting to water it 3 times a day. now some grass has geminated and began sprout in like the corner of the back yard but there is no grass in the middle or even germination Most if the Grass seeds in the Area are now White colored as if they had dried out are they Dead? i tilled the ground an inch and used a lawn seed spreader but there is noticeably no grass and i have a small Bermuda grass invasion so i`d rather let that plant itself and is there anyway i could speed it up I`m 15 and i can`t get job so don`t tell me to by fertilizer the best i can do is go buy some grass seed and try to it the right way but if the grass seed is White and dried out is it dead or is there still a chance?
Problem spreading fertiliser! Please help!? Hi, Have purchased 6 tonnes of organic manure compost fertilizer which is at present sitting in the paddock (covered). I have borrowed a 500 ltr 3PL PTO spreader from someone but the thing won't spread properly. It appears the grinder bit inside that whizzes around is compressing the fertilizer into big clumps so that when it drops out to the spreader plate it hits it as one big piece which flies off but doesn't really break up. If the stuff was dryer then it may stop it from clumping but- it has living organisms inside which require it be moist so there's a catch 22. Is there an attachment or something to solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Regards!
I know what is being said here, do you ? Scripture: Psalm 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies announce what his hands have made" NCV The Hubble and Spitzer Telescopes continue to amaze us with what is out in the Universe. Currently there is a rejuvenation of the 1895 theory that we have many universes in a Multiverse. A galaxy alone boggles the mind when it is said there are billions of galaxies in the Universe. Now if the theory proves to be right there may be hundreds, thousands or millions of Universes. So how big is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? The word infinite comes to mind! Some believe in Genesis 1:3 that "Let there be light" is a biblical description of the Big Bang which created the universe. All this Multiverse talk makes me wonder if modern science knows very much at all about the origin of the universe. NASA Astronomers recently announced that they had discovered the largest structure yet to be found in the universe --- a Galactic Metropolis. They described the structure as a great wall made up of high concentrations of galaxies. Just to give this some perspective --- the average galaxy contains over 1 billion stars. The great wall contains concentrated "clumps" of galaxies! This discovery delivers questions for those who believe in the Big Bang theory. If the universe was the result of a Big Bang it would be reasonable to expect to find stars evenly distributed in space. Much like spreading fertilizer on your lawn with a spinning hand spreader. No clumps --- just a reasonable pattern of evenly spaced fertilizer. There is another very good reason for Christians not to buy into the Big Bang theory. It's clear to me in the Bible that the Lord in Matthew 24 wants us to concentrate on the END rather than on the beginning. Jesus Himself has the preparations well in hand for the last day. Are you ready? Prayer: Father how incredibly infinite you, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are --- help me to maintain a Kingdom perspective of all this --- in preparation for what awaits in heaven. Does my Grass seed Still have a Chance?
Pasture Management? Howdy, We have 5 acres in No Cal that we just purchased. The previous owners did not take care of the pasture. They are a mix of weeds (no star thistle though), and natural grasses and wildflowers. I would like to keep it as natural as possible but just improve it. We bought a heavy duty harrow and I have started to drag the pastures. It is cleaning up the weeds and breaking up the areas with piles of old poop. We plan on getting a good manure spreader so we can spread the composted manure with some grass seed and fertilizer. What else? What is a good grass mix and where do I buy it? THANKS!!!
Grade 9 math word problem help? Grade 9 math word problem help? 1. Gregor is planning a driving trip. Part of his trip will be along major highways and part will be along country roads or on city streets. The speed limit on the highways in 100km/h while the limit on the roads in 60km/h. The total time he wants to spend driving is 12h and he has to travel 850km.How much time is he going to spend on each road? 2. Eve operates an apple farm. She spreads a mixture of a fertilizer called "all grow" and a weed suppresant "no weed" around her trees each autumn. She spent $800 this autumn to fill the spreader. All grow costs $2.50/kg and no weed costs $5.00/kg. Her spreader holds 200kg of mixture. How much of each did he use?
Will my grass grow even though I did not rake it over after I seeded? I am growing grass in my back yard. I have put down a 3-6 inches of top soil on a lot that is on a slope.... I didn't use a roller but I did pat the ground down a bit... next I evened it all out so it was nice and level... and I put down fertilizer and proper seed from a local (very experienced store).... next I used a spreader and I spread the seed all over..... the ground was last night so I did not water it... today I used my sprinkler to wet down the earth and let the seeds germinate.... the question is this... everywhere I look it says I should have raked the ground over after I seeded the back yard.... but I didn't; so will my seeds take even though I skipped that step? also... how much should I water the yard? I read 2-3 times depending on the weather... but I want to know to what extend should I be watering the ground? thanx for any suggestions!
I over-fertilized badly and now I want to plant new grass? About a week ago I badly over-fertilized parts of my yard, due to an old spreader that did not work right (I now have a new up-to-date one). Thankfully, I guess anyways, it rained over 6 inches two days after i fertilized, I used 28-0-3 weed and feed. On one part of my yard the grass was pretty much dead already and I want to plant new grass. How long do I need to wait to plant so that my new grass isn't hurt by the old fertilizer, you can still see granules of the fertilizer even after the hard rains? I want to use Scotts EZ seed tall fescue. I did not use a slow-release fertilizer, so I don't know if that changes anything or not
where can i find charts that will give me planting info such as lbs per acre on the following? grains/grass ga i am in the grading and clearing busssiness and i have have to plant a lot of grass (bermuda, fescue mostly) and this is generaly for pasture but sometimes just for ground cover. also i do what i like to call hobby farming i plant wheat, rye grass and grain, oats, barley, milo and millet (to be harvested by combine). what i am looking for are charts that will tell me lbs or bushels per acre for each and the charts need to be broken into two catagories one being (applied by spin spreader) the other being (applied by grain drill) also for example if i am fixing to drill in wheat at the rate of two bushels per acre what should i set my fertilizer dispenser on my grain drill for in lbs per acre? i know this will vary due to soil conditions but im just looking for an educated estimate. (good soil ?) (fair soil?) (poor soil?) for each of the grains listed above (not the grasses)

Overseeding, another question...? I had planned to aerate my lawn this fall, but when I went to rent the aerator, it was too large to get in the car and too heavy to have my wife help me with. With no other weekends to work on the yard for the next month, I decided to bag the idea. So instead I went home, mowed my lawn at the lowest setting, raked all the thatch and mowed again (bagging all the clippings). I then used a broadcast spreader to overseed (kentucky bluegrass/perennial ryegrass mix). Lastly, I took about 5 bags of Scotts Starter topsoil with starter fertilizer mixed in, and tried to throw it over the area. Here's my question. I found that spreading topsoil is not as easy as I thought it would be. I had to crumble it by hand over as much surface area as I could. But I'm quite sure (100% positive) that I did not cover all the seed (maybe 50% of the seed). The seed that was not covered still has soil contact, but is not top dressed. This was last Sunday. Should I do anything more? I may have some time tomorrow night to put some finishing touches on it, but now this is 5 days later. I doubt the 5 days later matters since I doubt either seed has germinated yet... but wanted all your thoughts... I could buy more bags of dirt and just keep covering the area, but it seems like I would need another 10+ bags and its a pain because I literally have to grab couple handfuls and crumple over the lawn as I walk. What do you guys think? Am I good as is or do I need to do a little more?

Planting Grass Seed....? My yard is a mess! There are tons of bare spots with no grass and the ground is so hard and pretty much just dirt. We want to plant Grass seed but I'm not really sure how to go about it. I know we need to till the yard to loosen the soil and then we plan on using a seed spreader. So I have a few questions. After we till do we need to lay down fertilizer? Do we just seed the bare spots and not seed over grass already there? Do we need to put straw down after seeding or something else? if so do you have to remove the straw after a certain time and how? and how often should i water the seeds? Thanks in advance!
What I need to start growing grass and what to do. ? This is my first time to grow grass. I live in Barstow, CA in the desert. I done brought the grass seed and starter fertilizer. I am also planning to buy some soil but different people tells me to get mulch or straw instead. I am also planning to get an fake owl to keep the gopher and ground squirrels out and birds. I also done pull all the weeds out and got the rocks out. Last two weeks I been wetting the dirt and then running the hound dog garden cultivator through it. I got a friend that have a hand spreader that I can borrow. Now I need step by step direction what to do next to have a better chance to grow grass. Also any natural remedies to keep the rodents and pests away. I also was wondering if it is too late to put the grass seed down. I hope it's not to late to put the grass seed down for a successful lawn.
Spreader setting for 13-13-13 fertilizer for lawn? I have a Scott's Speedy Green 3000 Rotary spreader (no instructions). The farm supply store told me to apply the fertilizer at a rate of 30lb/acre for lawngrass. What setting does this correspond to on my spreader? The settings on the maufacturesr's website are in grams/square meter and even after I convert to pounds/acre I can't make sense of it. If you have this spreader where do you set it?
