Is it safe to use Scotts Fertilizer with a home on well water? I just purchased a home that is on a well vs public utility. I've always used Scotts products to maintain my yard and have been happy with the results. But now that I have a home that uses a well, I just want to make sure that the fertilizer won't adversely affect water quality. I am well aware of organic options, I would just like to know if Scotts fertilizer is relatively safe assuming I'm following the directions and not over using the chemicals.
Can I use Scotts fertilizer in lawn if my wife is pregnant? My wife is pregnant. I don't know if it is safe to use Scotts fertilizer. How can I handle the weeds if it is not safe? Thanks,

OKay so i'm going to be trying to kill the weeds in my yard soon. it is a newly planted tall fescue lawn. After i mow it 4 or 5 times i'll probably zap it. I've got what i believe to be mallow weed. so what would you reccommend an Ortho spray or a scotts weed control fertilizer? what are the pros and cons of each, and what'll do the trick the best? YES - i did put down scotts starter fertilizer, so i will make sure to wait at least 7 weeks before hitting it with anything else. the weed is fairly spread out through the whole yard. thick in a few spots and sparce in others, but it would be easier to use a granule probably. it could be harmful to increase the amount you spread right? cause that would be the only thing with scotts is that it probably wouldn't drop enough to come in contact with every single weed. is either one more dangerous to a new yard?

Scotts Fertilizer and Watering? I just purchased Scotts Fertilizer (29/3/4) for my lawn (in addition to another brand of fertilizer). I've already used the competing brand for one full pass and now with Scotts Im applying it perpendicular to the competing brand to make a second pass. (Im using 2 diff brands because I had the competing brand first with all intentions of using it for the entire lawn but was given the opportunity to use Scotts later). My question is with the fertilizer applied to the lawn how much water should I drench it with? We have an automatic sprinkler system and I was considering having it run for 1hours time tonite, then 30 min each nite onward. Is this acceptable or could i be in risk of fertilizer burn? Thank you.

Do Scotts fertilizer and winterguards have expiration dates? I purchased fertilizer and winterguard a year and half ago and never got around to using it. I used an entire bag of Scotts step2 fertilizer pellets for 5,000 sq feet on 300 sq feet of lawn.? I am in Illinois and it is late May. I used an old, rusty spreader and it didn't work correctly. I accidentally applied the bag, which is intended for 5,000 sq feet of lawn, on about 300 sq feet of lawn. Which fertilizer is better for this Fall (Scotts 22-2-14 or Vigoro 12-3-18)? There are two brands of fertilizer that i can apply to my lawn to prepare it for the coming winter months (here in Southern Ontario Canada)...the two products are: Vigoro UltraTurf 12-3-18 Scotts WinterCare 22-2-14 Which do you think is the better of the two to use for my lawn. Recall that for fall it is best for the potassium to be higher (the 3rd #)...So with that said Vigoro would be the best choice since it is sporting potassium at 18 while Scott's brand is at "14"...But what struck me as a odd was why Scott's brand has nitrogen at "22" while Vigoro is at "12"....Nitrogen is used for greenup and crown growth but since we are in the fall months why would this need to be high at all..shouldnt this number be low as is seen with the Vigoro product.....the last thing i want the grass to do is to continue growing when the winter frost is coming (i want it to store as much nutrients as possible before winter).....Any thoughts? Has anybody had any luck with Scotts Plus 2 fertilizer?? I put this down last summer and followed all of the specific instructions and I really did not see much results. they say it has 24D in there, but I did not see much results. Maybe it is just a light version of it. It turned a few broadleaf weeds slightly brown, but not much more than that. MAYBE THE LIQUID VERSION OF 24D AND MSMA IS MUCH BETTER? WHAT DO YOU THINK? I LIVE IN TENNESSEE AND IT HAS BEEN 80+ DEGREES THE PAST TWO WEEKS. ZONE 6B.
Grass Fertilizer Help! How do you repair damaged grass spots? I accidentally used the wrong fertilizer(16-16-16) when applying it to the grass in the frontyard, so my neighbor suggested to use another fertilizer instead, which was the Scotts fertilizer with 2% iron and that did work. However, the 16-16-16 fertilizer previously used damaged certain areas of the lawn, and now I'm left with brown dead spots in the grass. How do I get rid of those dead spots, and make grass grow in those areas again? I have tried to put the Scotts fertilizer with 2% iron in those brown spots, but that proved to be unsuccessful and the dead brown spots are still there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciatied, thanks a bunch.

Lime Ironite and Fertilizer use in a drought? Hello, I live in Northern Ohio, and we have had a drought. We used to have a very shady yard due to all of the trees, but we recently trimmed all of them and have much more sunlight. Would like to get the yard in good shape for the winter. Can I put down lime, then apply Ironite, then Scotts fertilizer in the same weekend. Our soil is very acidic, so the Lime has always worked. Any thoughts on the Ironite?

Fertilizer - Why is it ok to just spread fertilizer rather than put deep in soil close to roots? I notice that all instructions i have read about putting fertilizer on my lawn (e.g. Scotts Turf Builder Fertilizer and Weed Control) always says to use a spreader (or dropper) to put the fertilizer on the "surface" of the lawn. From my understanding fertilizer contains valuable nutrients for the lawn (its food for the grass) and so i would best think it would work better if the fertilizer was closest to the lawn's roots found far underneath the surfce. So how then is tossing fertiizer on the surface of the grass useful? And wouldn't weeds just use the fertilizer as food too? If it burns them chemically because the fertilizer is so close to them then why do instructions mentions to use fertilizer in a mix with new seedlings -- you dont get closer to that and would that then burn the new seedling because the fertilizer is so close?
Will Cutting and Bagging Clippings remove Fertilizer i had spread down eariler? I used a chemical fertilizer (Scotts) on my lawn about 4 days ago and i want to cut my lawn. I plan on cutting and having my lawnmower's bag capture it so i can toss it out. Scotts Summerguard (heat and insects) question, Fertilizer? We think we have an insect problem in our yard. We have random brown spots that we know isn't from animal pee or grubs. What is the correct spreader setting for milorganite, I have a scotts standard broadcast spreader? the directions on the bag and website do not list my spreader, the two scotts listed on there do not match mine. Can i Mow My Weeded Lawn Before i Apply a Fertilizer-Weed Conrol Mix? I bought the Scotts Turf Builder Pro which is a Fertilizer-Weed Control Mix. How much can I REALLY fertilize my yard? I have been using the Scotts plan, which goes through about 5 to 6 applications each year. How much time has to go by before you can apply regular ole Scotts fertilizer to the yard? Maybe not a full application but enough to get seedlings to grow and keep the yard green. How do I get rid of mold around a tree stump? Cut down a tree about 5 years ago and the remaining stump is just a few inches above the ground. The grass was getting very high and I mowed it today, when I did, I found some kind of mold had formed around the stump and also on a tree root that is above the soil line several feet away, from the same old tree that had been cut down. I'm using the Scotts fertilizer system where they sell four different types of fertilizer that should be applied at different times of the year. I am tired of Scotts!! Ever heard of Trimec and Division? I think they are too expensive and I think a lot of their products are very "watered down" potencies. Using Nu-Gro ProTurf Fertilizer (25-3-10) on Lawn Grass -- Is it ok? Hi. I found a product at the Garden store that was an incredible bargin. The product is fertilizer with the values 25-3-10 (for Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potasium). I was going ot go with Scotts but they are too expensive. I notice the Potasium in this product is a little higher than normal which is good for protecting against drought and disease (e.g. in hot summers and Fall/Winter). What's a good lawn fertilizer I can use to keep my lawn looking green? I have tried Scotts Turfbuilder but I never get any results from it. I have used sulfate ammonia which turns the grass really green in a few days but it doesn't last long.
When should I apply pre-emergent fertilizer/weedkiller combo in the Chicago area? Scotts website says "february to april" is when to apply it, was wondering if anyone could be more specific.
I'm planting grass & just found grubs. Can i plant grass, put down grub control & fertilizer simultaneously? Grubs are mature. Grass seeds will be replacing tall fescue patches I have removed. I burnt my lawn using fertilizer. What should I do? I used Scotts Turf Builder with plus 2 weed control, and i think it burnt my lawn. Patches of grass turned yellow overnight, and the patches arent small. What should I do.
Lawn advice. Lime, Fertilizer, and mowing? I have an established lawn in Massachusetts. Just a few basic questions. I would like to mow, spread lime, and spread fertilizer this weekend. Growing a new lawn from seed? Okay i wanted to make sure I seeded and did everything in order to my lawn. First I turned over the old lawn with a shovel then i broke up all the big clumps and raked it out and leveled it. I then put down scotts grubex once i have grubs and i also put down the scotts kentucky bluegrass seed with it. Then i put about a half inch layer of decent cheap top soil over the the seeds and grubex then i put scotts starter fertilizer over the top soil and watered it. Did i do everything right?

This Week or When I Return? I just bought Scotts Winter Fertilizer with weed control and some Sun & Shade premium grass seed (also by Scotts). New Sod laid, now we have crabgrass? New sod was laid on our back property a few months ago that came with crabgrass. Is it too late in the season to put down Scotts fertilizer with crabgrass killer? Anyone ever use Nu-Gro Turf Fertilizer (28-4-10) on Lawn? I saw this really huge bag of grass fertilizer called Nu-Gro Turf Fertilier with the values 28-4-10. I have used Scotts Turf Builder (29-4-3) but find that their bags are too small in relation to their cost and want to try another brand. can i plant grass seed over a sod yard with mulch with out tilling? i live in sc, half of front yard is weeds ( soil is sand based ) half is sod...i am going to rip out weeds and hand till weed half and then add scotts grass mulch fertilizer with grass seed...the sod half is too difficult to till by hand...if i rake all dead sod out and throw scotts mulch and grass seed over sod will it become real grass ? will the grass replace the sod ? ...if i water , throw good soil down with seed covering completly the sod will grass grow eventually overcoming the sod.....sod is ugly, it stays brown until spring....a good grass stays green all year....please help me ...looking for someone with very good knowledeg and exp. for my answer...thank you everyone !
advantage to liquid herbacides and fertilizers as opposed to granular? I see many professional lawn companies hauling chemicals around in tanks in the back of their trucks and spraying the lawn and plants that way. I am use to spreading out granular fertlizer and pre-emergent and fertilizer. Is there any advantage to the way the "lawn professionals" do it by spraying out liquids from a hose and the way I do it by spreading out the Scotts brand of granular herbicides and fertilizers with a spreader?
