How long will it take scotts grass seed to grow? On the grass seed bag it said for new lawns to use scotts starter fertilizer for better results. So i put grass seed with fertilizer. Its been 6 days so far and i dont see anything. Ive put grass seed before and it seemed like it only took 5 days or so... What is the longest it can take? I put sod topper on top of the seeds . A very thin coat just so the birds wont see or eat the seeds. I was told to do this by someone.
What grass seeds to use? And are Scotts or Pennington any good? My front yard is a mess. I tried doing research online but there are soo many different opinions that I am not too sure what to follow. How dense should grass seed cover the ground for starting a new lawn? I have a Scotts drop spreader (model 1000, aka El Cheapo) and using the suggested setting on the back of my Scotts grass seed hardly drops any seeds. Do your best to describe the coverage... maybe seeds per square inch or how high to bump the setting on the spreader. Thank you! why would Scotts Grass Seed Company even tell their customers to cut back on the watering after seed germinate? am getting conflicting view points or opnions on this..first of all the soil is mostly clay dirt...that have..and am using fescue seed. I put down the seed at the first week of September..and so has had well over 1 month now to establish..but since we have been still having fairly warm days in autumn...but cool nights..my lawn care person just advised me to water EVERY day still for next 3-4 weeks..but i called Scotts to just confirm and they are saying that its okay to do that..but not really needed..they say it is best to cut back on the watering to 2-3 times per week after the seed has germinated..but how this is likely that a grass seed company would advise NOT WATERING THE SEEDLINGS EVERY DAY?
How often should I water my grass!? I just finished spreading Scotts Grass seeds and now im waiting for the grass to grow.... However, i am not sure how often i should water it? Everyday, every other day, with sun, without sun? Also hoping for my thumb to turn Green also!
What is causing the tips of my grass to turn brown? I planted Scotts grass seed 4 weeks ago and the grass came up very well within 7 to 10 days. However, recently the tips of the grass have begun to turn brown, what has caused this? The soil has been kept moist, but not wet, and the lawn has not been cut.
Grass Seed: Scotts vs Penington? I have a big area to plant grass seed and herd of scotts and penington are 2 of the best out there with their "EZ Seed" Products. Which is better? When is the best time to start planting? I already have the soft loose soil now just need good seed.
why would a representative at Scotts grass seed company recommend me something different than what Scotts said? was asking if it is okay to mow the lawn 1 week after having overseeded....and she told me that PERSONALLY she would not do it..but Scotts guidelines say that it is okay to mow even a few days after..as long as the seed has been watered in once really good and the ground is now at least dry enough not to leave tracks..(if using a heavy mower) which is true and why this representative would tell me she wouldnt..but Scotts says it is okay? how Scotts would benefit from telling consumers wrong in this instance? (as they have to refund your money for your seed if it doesnt come up? as they have a consumer warranty?)

I have some scotts turf grass seeds sitting around and was wondering if that is fine to use is a pasture that feeds horses? its the same stuff in the yard and they graze off that everyonce in a while but i just want to make sure before putting it in the field. Did I plant my grass seed too early? I live in Indiana, I planted grass seed in early April, and temps reach into the 70's. Now my seeds have started to sprout and come up, but the temps are going to fall drastically. The temps are not supposed to get over 45 degrees during the day and sometimes below freezing at night. This is supposed to last about 7 days, will the newly sprouted grass die? I planed Scotts EZ seed sun and shade mixture. Oops, I meant to say early March. My bad.

What is the best process to growing a portion of my lawn with Bermuda grass seed? I live in NC so we have red clay. So this past weekend I turned the clay, put some Scotts Bermuda seed down and Scotts fertilizer with it and wet the area pretty well and patted the dirt down. I also wet it in the morning and when I return home in the evening to keep it wet. I want to make sure the grass grows so any information that helps me is greatly appreciated!
I planted Scott's grass seed and now all I have is new clover everywhere! What should I do? I used the premium tall fescue seed with the little shell around it to keep in moisture. It's been over a week, and I've been watering pretty regularly. Since I spread, the seed, some lime, and some turf builder, I've gotten new clover everywhere in the yard. Most of it is little baby clover, and some of it has already grown pretty thick. No sign of new grass. I did have the yard plugged by the way before I spread. What happened? What should I do?
do many fescue seeds not germinate after 3 weeks ,,but might take up to 6 weeks later to germinate? why, which percentage of fescue seed probably wont even sprout until 6 weeks later even after spreading out grass seed..and why, how they would survive if you did what many people recommend..such as cutting back on your watering 2-3 times per week after first seeds sprout? as wont this cause other seeds that havent sprout to not germinate maybe? WHY EVEN SCOTTS GRASS SEED COMPANY WOULD RECOMMEND NOT WATERING EVERY DAY AFTER FIRST 2-3 WEEKS? WHAT IS WRONG WITH WATERING EVERY MORNING FOR 15 MINUTUES FOR ENTIRE 6 WEEKS? (EVEN IF COOLER WETAHER IS HERE) please explain what you can..
Will snow damage grass seed already on the ground? I planted some Scotts Premium Sun & Shade grass seed and I don't want it to be wasted because it wasn't cheap, even on sale it was expensive. We are supposed to have a cold front come through Northern Indiana where I live and I'm worried it might get damaged.
If deer do not eat grass, what are they doing in my yard every night? My lawn is just Scott grass, no rye, or clover. The deer come out at 10pm and eat there for at lease an hour. My cousin that hunts told me deer will eat what ever is green, and grass is green and juice. He told me he uses lawn grass seed to start a feeding area. So who is right; do deer eat grass?
How fast will lawn grow to good full green? Using a half sun half shade Scotts grass seed in the deep south, how soon could I expect a full green yard, with the proper planting and seed starter and watering? Wondering how long I will have to wait till my lawn is lookind good, seeding on top of my grass that I have now.
Will my grass seeds make it? Mother Nature has duped me. I live in NH and we had a stretch of really great, unseasonably warm weather. So, I figured I'd try and plat some new grass seed. I prepared the area with a tiller and hauled in some new loam. I seeded with Scott's brand which is a blend of Fescue and then topped it with straw. I have been watering it often to keep the soil moist. All was going well until I looked at the extended weather forecast... and here comes the frost. There were two nights of minor frost just a few days after I laid the seed. Now it's about 60 during the day and mid 30s during the night. At this point I realize I should have waited at least a few weeks if not a month - lesson learned. Do these seeds even have a chance at growing, or is this a lost cause? Peat moss... never thought about that, but makes sense. Thanks for the tip.
Do I need to add more grass seed? I seeded a yard two weeks ago today using Scott's Turfbuilder EZ seed and Scotts coated seed. The yard had not had grass for years as it was covered by plastic and a deck. The grass has started growing great, but there is about 20% of the yard where grass does not seem to be coming up, or is thin. Should I let the grass spread (does it?) or should I add more seed? I don't want to choke out the new grass I have coming in.
Did I Plant My Grass To Early Today 11-28-11? I live in F L A , I planted grass seed in early April, and temps reach into the 70's. Did my grass seed expire? I purchased 2 bags of Scotts PurePremium grass seed last July containing various bluegrasses, ryegrasses, and fescues. One bag says that it was tested in December 2006 and the other January 2007. I planted these seeds last September and they germinated very well. Then over a week ago I planted more seeds to fill in some bare spots and not a single seed has sprouted. I watered regularly once a day, used seeding soil, and the temperatures were in the 60s during the day and 40s at night. Is the temperature too cold, did the grass seed expire, did I not water enough, should I buy new seeds?
new grass seed on fertilizer? Add planted grass seed about 3 weeks ago, is it good time to put fertilizer on now or no. I live in MN and used Scott grass seed. Just want to speed it up, i for got o do it when putting seed down

How do you plant grass? I currently have a big yard that has more crabgrass then grass. I bought Scott's EZ Grow grass seed and a Scott's fertilizer. Please help. I've never planted grass before.
Do I use fertilizer when planting new grass seed? I have tilled my yard a couple times the past couple months and the ground is real soft and fine right now. I am going to start a new lawn and there is nothing "living" in the dirt. It is ready to be seeded. I bought some new bluegrass/fescue seed and some scotts turf builder. Should I put the fertilizer first then the seed or do it at the same time? Is there anything else I should do to the dirt to make sure I get a nice new lawn?
Is it too late to overseed lawn? I live in Ohio. We had frost last night for maybe the first time and it gets up to mid 50's during the day. Is it too late to overseed lawn? If so, will the grass seed go bad before next spring? I have purchased regular Scotts grass seed and Scotts EZ seed.
Help> I can't grow grass!? I have a beautiful sunny place. I have tried 3 times. Scotts patch, grass seed, fertilizer, landscapers pellets. I water two times a day. NOTHING WORKS. How can I simply make grass grow?
what brand of grass seed should i try for bare spots in my yard that are in shade? i have a ton of trees in my yard. i have a bunch of bare areas of my yard that i would like to fill with anything!! looks ugly with dirt patches everywhere. whats a good brand i can try? i tried using scotts (something?) it was a seed mix at walmart. nothing grew. im ready to try something else just not sure what to buy. is it better to buy seed from plant stores or is it ok to buy from chain stores like walmart or lowes?
I just laid a bunch of topsoil and put down grass seed? I got Scott's EZ seed and I have stated watering it and noticed that the grass seed started to spread (its on a hill) and it began to form into clumps in areas. I am wondering if I can go and spread it back out evenly with a rake... Even though I laid it down about a week ago is it still okay to go back through and rake it? Its been over a week and I still have no grass growing?
What grass seed would you recommend? I live in southern york county, in Pennsylvania. I have areas of the yard that are completely sunny and a section of the yard that is mostly shade. I have 2 dogs so I suppose I need something that is for high traffic. I have tried Scott's seed in the past and have felt mostly unrewarded. I'd prefer low maintanence if possible.
How can I make my grass green? Just the other day, I laid some fertilizer on the lawn and it rained for a full night. However, it's been a week and i don't see any result. My front lawn is good but my back lawn had lots of dead patches. I removed almost al the dead patches. At home, I have c-i-l grass seed, scotts fertilizer, and top soil. what should I do?? help me, i wanna make grass look good or else i'm thinking of putting interlocking somewhere around my house (maybe the front and the walkway or just the walkway and backyard)
What is the best way to cheaply get your lawn to grow back after the winter, instead of using SCOTTS Starter? I am a new home owner; after last winter my lawn turned out to be completely dead due to grubworms. I had to till and entirely reseed it, but it did work. This year, it is starting to come back in, but I see many people using the Scotts Starter fertilizer. This stuff is 50 bucks per bag. Does anything really need to be done, and can I maybe just spread a bag of grass seed around now to make sure grass comes back? Hi. Thanks for the info, and here are extra details: I am in northern New England. The grass type that I planted was a Kentucky Bluegrass blend, specifically blended for New England, but I dont remember the other types of seed within it. The lawn is mostly sunny with occasional shade from the house as the sun moves, but no big trees in the yard. Some traffic from kids in the yard, but not all the time, and no dogs or anyhing. I am just looking for an idea on what to do to at this point to help the lawn come in well. Hi. Thanks for the info, and here are extra details: I am in northern New England. Does my grass seed need to be covered completely??? Hi, I bought Scott's Shade and Sun grass seed, and I followed the instructions, and raked the soil after I spread the seed, but I can still see the grass seed above the soil. Is it okay if you can see the seed, or is it supposed to be covered completely? Thanks
Fall grass seeding (Southern State)? I am going to seed again this fall. I was looking at scotts winter guard grass seed for southern states. I have centipede grass now, which the bag said not to seed while cetipede is in dormit stage Oct 15- March 15, except in Florida. I live on the gulf coast, abut 30 miles from Fl. state line. When will be the best time to do a fall seeding, and what will be best for seeding on top of centipede?
do i have to rake in grass seed? so i broke up all the dirt in the area i want grass. i leveled it. not completely straight but level atleast. ive grown grass on it before which seemed to take less then a week to see results but it was stepped all over by dogs when it was barely growing which killed it quickly. anyways its all healthy soil, last time i raked in the seed. this time i was told to break up the dirt, throw the seed on top and then put some sod topper on top (which is like a manure for grass). i put topper on very lightly because the purpose was to hide the seed from the birds. its been 6 days since i threw the seed and have not seen anythingggg growing yet. could it be because i didnt rake in the seed (even tho a gardener told me to just throw it on top). or should i wait longer. the seed is scotts perrenial rye grass for high traffic. i put some starter fertilzer as the bag instructed also. do i have to rake it, or should i wait longer?
Lawn grass dandelion and reseeding problem? Hi I am having some dandelion problem on my front yard. I researched about it a bit, and I found out that, having thin lawn grass would make it perfect for dandelions and other weeds to grow on my yard. So I went to Home Depot and bought the following: Fiskars Weed Puller - For plucking out dandelions off the lawn Scotts Weed-B-Gon - For spot spraying the smaller dandelions Scotts Lawn Fertilizer - To make grass healthy I guess Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seeds - For reseeding to make my lawn thicker I already plucked out most of the dandelions using the weed puller. Now my problem is I don't know which one to do after that. Should I apply weed killer, then fertilize, then reseed? or should I fertilize then reseed, then weed killer? Is is safe to fertilize and reseed right after applying weed killer or should I wait couple of days after the weeds die? Thanks for the help.
My new lawn grass is growing in unevenly - should I be concerned? Hi - I am about two weeks into a lawn renovation project. I rough-graded the turf, removed any loose stones, spread topseed using a Scott's broadcast spreader, added plenty of topsoil, then water & finally Scott's starter fertilizer. I know it is early, and the results thus far are mixed. In some areas, the grass has sprouted nicely. In other areas, nothing yet but small stubbles. Should I be concerned or do sections of grass tend to grow in at different speeds? Using the Scott's spreader, I feel pretty confident that the grass seed was spread evenly. Thank you.
How to get rid of weeds FOR GOOD? My backyard is full of them. Here's what I'm thinking but if somebody can confirm or add tips, that'd be great. 1. Shovel, or pull out all weeds with roots. 2. Add very rich soil over lawn where weeds were. 3. Apply grass seeds like Scotts. 4. Water Would this work? Can somebody tell me the ratio of Soil to Grass Seed? I'm thinking this works because more grass means less room for weeds to grow. My backyard is turning into a jungle... Someone HELP!!!
would anyone recomend any types of grass seed? i am looking for a type of grass seed that will take in hard ground. i tried Scott's and raked the ground as best as i could but it just comes up in little spots. if anyone has any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it.
I need help with my yard maintanence and advice for planting grass? Well this is actually a couple of questions rolled into one. I live in the Virginia Beach, VA area and was wondering when the best time is to plant grass seed? Also, I just ripped out a bunch of shrubbery and everything is bare. What do I need to do to get it ready for grass seed and what do i need to throw on it? Scott's turf builder? Also, the rest of my yard that has grass is all brown. It looks pitiful. I want my yard to look green and lush. Help! What do I need?
Can I plant any type of grass seed in December? A couple weeks ago we got Bermuda from another person's backyard when they were putting in a pool. Unfortunately, I didn't know that it was Bermuda and that was a summer grass. I don't know how long it was planted in their yard for, but it doesn't seem to be taking root in our yard. I wanted to spread a winter seed on top but found our that we are between seasons. We have spread Scott's turf builder and Ammonium Sulfate on the lawn but it doesn't seem to help it take root or get any greener. Any suggestions?
Used fresh horse manure for fertilizer for grass seeding.? Hi everyone, i got a five gallon bucket worth of horse manure from a friend who has horses to try to avoid having to spend 20 dollars on scotts fertilizer on some grass seed i sowed in my yard today, i was curious if since this wasnt composted or aka black and was fresh if this was going to hurt my freshly sowed grass seeds, i guess in my haste i should have asked this before the fact of doing this but i was told by a person after the fact that this will fry my grass seeds being newer manure, i just wanted to get some other opinons before i waste two weeks watering this new seed, i have hay over the top of hit for protection also. thanks for any input.
I recently seeded my yard with Scott's sun mix grass seed. Now the whole back yard is weeds. What do I do? I seeded my yard with scotts turf builder sun mix it contains a 50 50 Perennial ryegrass and Kentucky Bluegrass. I did everything I was supposed to do according to the directions now 10 weeks later I have patchy grass drowned out by thousands of weeds. When I planted it was bare dirt. What I have read is you not supposed to use weed killer until you have mowed the grass 2-4 times. It's not even close for it's first mow. At this point I am worried the weeds are completely drowning out the grass. I want a nice thick lawn with no bare spotts and as is sits right now it doesn't look like I'm going to get that. What should I do to thicken it up and get rid of the weeds? Any suggestions? When I applied the seed I was very generous so it's not due to the lack of seed and I have been watering it consistently. Online I was unable to find anything that talks about weeds and seeding. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Has anyone else expierenced this?
Why is my grass not growing? Abut 2 weeks I ago I purchased Scott Low light grass seed. I raked the grass and placed fertilizer soil down and planted my grass seed. I water the seeds every day and we have had a decent amount of rain lately. I thought possibly the temperature could have been an issue, but I looked at my neighbor (I live in a town home) and her grass is growing. Any ideas? If I need more information, please ask. eek! The bag says 4-10 days. Could it be the excessive rain we received and cloudy weather? I am going to assume I am getting enough light in the area - I have solar lights that light up. I will replant tomorrow. Should I rake up the old seed? The weather for the next 4 days is a lot of sun :).
What do you put over grass seed to keep it from blowing away, birds eating it? We're planting seed in spots we raked up moss. Can we put the old moss on top of it to keep it from blowing away or birds eating the seed? What's the best process of watering? Before? After? Both? Neither? ANy other ideas? It's Scott's that killed the moss for us, we raked it up (how good a job do I really need to do to make this seeding work?). They're putting down the seed and we're 'covering it'. Any ideas?
Grass Seed? Who makes the best grass seed. I haven't had very good luck with Scotts and it seems expensive. Only looking for brands and where to get them - not growing tips.
Which is better Scotts fertilizer or manure? Hi I plan on planting some new grass seed to start a lawn and I was wondering which fertilizer was better? Also if anyone could tell me what's the best way to get rid of old grass to start new grass would be helpful too.
How do i fill in the dead patches in my lawn? We just bought a house the house was empty for over a year. How do i fill in the patches of dead grass? I have bought "Scott's fertilizer" and "Scott's grass seed" Will this do the trick? Do i put the grass seed done 1st or the fertilizer? can someone tell me step by step please
This Week or When I Return? I just bought Scotts Winter Fertilizer with weed control and some Sun & Shade premium grass seed (also by Scotts). I am in NE Ohio and am leaving town on Friday 12th October thru 21st. My question is should I put them on my lawn now, or can I wait 'til I return? Thanks in advance for sensible answers.
Grass question? Recently bought home... grass was awful. Huge bare area and filled with weeds throughout. This spring, I just filled in most bare areas with grass seed, and it took pretty well. There are still some barespots and weeds have been coming in pretty hefty in bare spots and everywhere else. I was going to use Scotts Turf Builder Plus 2 Weed Killer now to kill weeds. Should I use that - is that the best next step? OR... should I keep pulling weeds and planting grass seed? Because I know if I use the Scotts with weed killer, I can't plant grass seed for about 4-6 weeks. Ultimately, what should I do next?
What is the best seed/fertilizer for pet urine burns on grass? Have 2 labs at my new home, and the snow has finally melted! Thus, exposing the urine burn spots that added up all winter. Heard "Scotts Patchmaster" is a good one to use?! Going to attempt to lay some seed/fertilizer down this weekend. Watering is not a problem, just wondering how much water...and, the best product to use? Thanks!
what is the best type of grass to grown in nj? my lawn died i think because i put weed kiler on it in july :( so now i have to plant more seed on my front lawn which has a slope and some spots on the rest of it. any advise on which brand and what type of seed? i always liked scotts. :)
What do the numbers on a broadcast spreader mean ? I have some grass seed that says it should be sown at 15 seeds per square inch, and that 5 is too low and 30 is too high. My spreader only goes up to 15, so I have a feeling that's not what the numbers mean since the grass seed package seemed to indicate that 15 would be a "somewhere in the middle" kind of number. Any ideas ? It's a Scott's Edge Guard spreader, and the instructions that came with it don't tell you what the numbers actually mean, unfortunately.
Overseeding and Crabgrass...? Hi everyone. I live in Westchester County NY. Last year I had a terrible crabgrass problem and completely burnt out my lawn and started from scratch. Problem was, I started too late (mid-Oct) and I go decent but not spectacular germination (some spots were 65-70% and others close to 100%). This spring I had to chose between overseeding or putting down pre-emergent. I chose to overseed in mid-April. After I had some germination (by late April), I put down pre-emergent (early May). Around the same time, I had a ton of chickweed growing (mainly in the area that was 65%-70% covered) and so I spayed to kill it. Fast forward to today. The chickweed was successfully killed, but the pre-emergent was applied too late and I now have crabgrass again (not enough to warrant burning out, but enough where its a problem. In some spots, I would guess its 1/3 crabgrass, 2/3 grass). Perhaps more troubling is that much of that new grass I planted last fall and this spring is not looking so hot . Much of it is brown and dead (I used Scotts premium grass seed, Perrennial Rye/Kentucky Bluegrass mix). Even in the areas that were 100% lush and full in the early spring, its not looking nearly as good now (those area seem to have thinned throughout the spring and summer... almost as if it was so dense that the grass couldn't compete with itself.) In the spot that was 65-70% covered, I'm not sure if what I am seeing is the dead chickweed in between my healthy grass? And in the area that was 100% covered and very thick and lush in the spring, I don't know if I seeded too much and the grass couldn't compete with itself? Its strange. Anyway you slice it, I need to overseed again this fall, hope that it fills in nicely because I do it at the right time, and then do my pre-emergent early early next year (at least I think this is the best route). Now my questions... What are your thoughts on the brown, relatively thin, grass (in both areas)? When should I overseed (Was thinking making it a project the weekend of 9/5? What should I do with the crabgrass (overseed around it)? I tried using a crabgrass killer, but it didn't do much. I tried pulling it, but there is too much. I spend maybe 10:00 a day pulling up clumps here and there. When the crabgrass dies this winter, will my grass overtake the bare spots in the spring? And last but not least, I also have cicada killer wasps who are tearing up the lawn with their Burroughs. Any suggestion here? Why would applying the pre-emergent hurt my grass next year? Won't all my seed germinate this fall if I do it correctly? Thanks for your help! Another add-on. I just fertilized (this past weekend), with a normal fertilizer. Can I really use a weed and feed in 2 weeks and then a starter fertilizer 2 weeks after that? Wouldn't that be overkill?
Good weed killer that wont hurt grass? I need to go a good weed killer that wont hurt my grass, I have alot of the weeds with the purple flowers on top and alot of the really tass grass with seeds on top, foxtails? I believe. I saw alotta roundup but it says it kills grass to, I was told by someone if your grass is dormant roundup wont hurt it, any truth to that? I bought a ortho weed b gone max that attaches to the garden hose and was going to see if that does anything, I tried some scotts TB2 with weed killer the pellets and applied it, and it did nothing at all.
My lawn is all weeds and I want grass? I know that I am going to have to tile at least twice to break up my soil... but I have a HUGE front yard that is currently ALL weeds. I want grass this year. So I need some advice. I dont know all the breads of weeds... it is like a field. I am sure their is crabgrass, there is a lot of moss (which makes not a lot of sense since the yard is in full sun... isn't moss a damp area thing?), a lot of the weeks are hard and sharp... dont know if that tells you anything. Anyway the entire lawn is this. So what is the best and least expensive way to kill this stuff? Just something like weed be gone or Scotts Weed Killer??? I dont really have any plants yet to save... and then ones I do I can protect.... I have to protect the roots right? So then my steps would be to weed kill.... till the yard... fertalize and then till again? Then I plant the grass seed, which I just sprinkle on the dirt or do I brush it in? Sorry for the multi long questions. I do appreciate your help tremendously! Thank you.
Lawn Care Help For Beginner? my lawn is pretty thin and yellowish. i just got some patch up seeds, and scotts turf builder, but it never seems to help. it says not to do if expected to rain within 24 hours but to do in the morning or when grass is damp. i also have a BIG patch from an old garden in which i want to put lawn seed. whats the best way to plant grass seed that is blue cause its the mulch combo, do i still cover it with dirt or just leave it out.
Newly planted grass won't come up. I put down bags of topsoil.? I got about 12 bags of topsoil from Home Depot, at $1.49 /bag (really cheap). I first fertilized with an organic fertilizer, and a week later seeded. I did not use hay. I watered every day for 2 weeks. Not a blade came up. Could it be bad topsoil? The seed was Scotts. This is in a partial shade area with morning sun.
My lawn is dead/dying. How do I save it or is it too late? I moved into a rental about 5 months ago in southern california. The lawn was nice in green back February but has slowly died as the weather got warmer. Once I realized that the sprinklers were not working properly I began to water the lawn when I got home from work. The lawn progressively started to die quicker. After research, I realized that watering at that time of the day may have helped kill it. I went to home depot and bought some scotts turf builder and some more seed. I laid it down and followed the instruction but nothing really happened. Now the grass is pretty much dead every where except a few spots. I water it in the morning or noon time only. It's very dry this summer and I have progressively been watering with more and more water with no success. I read that I may need to have it aerated and re-seeded. Is this true? Can I do it myself? If not, what is the price to have someone do this? The ground is very firm and fyi no plants are dying etc.
seeding my lawn? I just put scotts turf builder with weed killer and was wondering if this is just a weed killer or is it both a weed killer and a grass seed. I want to seed my lawn more than anything. has anyone used this particular brand?
What is the best way to get rid of these weeds and plant grass in northeast Wisconsin? My backyard at my rental property is overgrown with weeds. I have lived here 6 yrs now & consider it my own so I want an inexpensive way to get rid of these weeds and plants grass. I've already tried the Scotts weed killer plus fertilizer. It only kills current weeds and wasn't tough enough for my situation. There are a lot of low areas and divits that I was planning on filling in and seeding this fall that are also full of weeds. What is the best way to go about planting the grass? I know I can't just put top soil over the weeds and seed but how thourough do I need to be at pulling them out before I put soil and seed down? Also, what is the best type of grass for my area? I was told a type of shade grass is reptty sure to grow anywhere. Any advice on this lawn would be great!
Questions about grass...please help? I currently have several considerably sized patches in my yard where grass will not grow. I've tried several different blends of seeds and also sod but I can never get the grass to last for more than a few weeks. each of the patches has it's own unique problem: heavy traffic, sun, shade, heavy drainage...etc. Is there a seed/seed mix that will work for my needs? Also, has anyone used Scotts "PatchMaster" Sun and Shade Mix? Does it work well? Additionally, are there any other recommendations for building and maintaining a lawn to be proud of?
To Late to grow an lawn? Arizona...? We are putting in a sprinkler system & lawn this weekend. Will it be too late for the grass to really grow? We had a lot of work to do in our yard, so it took us a while. I keep reading that planting late your lawn might not grow AT ALL!? Also we were going to buy some of the Scotts Weed & Feed along with the grass seed, is this a good idea? (We do have weeds that we have pulled up). So here is the gist of what we are going to do (my fiancee knows the specifics). Till the yard, mix in weed & feed & turf builder?.....Install sprinkler system, put down grass seed, water. Any other advice for us? -We live in SE Az (Safford)
Fall overseeding and weed prevention? I have a first year lawn in Indiana and we've had horrible foxtail and broadleef all season, about 50/50 good grass (blue/rye/fescue) to weed ratio. I plan to use Scotts Winterizer to help prevent weeds next year but not sure when to use because I also plan on re-seeding/overseeding once the weeds start to die from first frost. I'm worried if I don't time it right, the Scotts will prevent the overseed from growing..Any advice? Thanks!
Keeping a Green lawn? A few weeks ago i put some scotts super turf builder fertilizer on my lawn along with some grass seeds. After getting it cut today i noticed how pretty and green it was....it looked like plush green rug. I have to admit that im proud of myself because this is my first home and the first time that i have ever attempted to take care of a lawn and just a few weeks ago the grass was so yellow and dry. My question is how do i maintain that pretty green plush look? I havent been watering it everyday but then it hasent been that hot either...not yet anyway. Should i buy more fertilizer and grass seeds or should i just water it everyday once the weather gets hotter? Also i saw a some seeds called kentucky blue glass and i thought about buying that but i thought maybe im jumping gun being that im a rookie at this. Any suggestion on what i should do to maintain my lawn is appreciated? Thanks!
I've pulled my weeds. Now what do i do? I purchased a weed puller device to pull out my weeds out of my lawn. Now that they have been removed i have several holes in the ground. But i ask you, what is the best next step for me, so as to get ot my ultimte goal of a very green, very healthy lawn? I putchased 2bags of Scotts' Turf Builder Pro Lawn Fertilizer and Weed Control. It mentions on the bag to use on early morning due to the dew. My plan is now that the weeds have been pulled: 1. Use the Scott's Turf Builder Pro bags to spread onto lawn in the morning 2. Go in with top-soil to fill in the holes i made. 3. Allow several weeks to pass (according to the bags instructions) 4. Start putting in lawn seeds all over the grass Is this approach good? Thanks for ALL your help
Soil test N-P-K readings contradict Starter Fertilizer? I'm about to start growing new grass seed (tall fescue) so I took a soil test and I got the following readings: (N) Nitrogen = N0 (depleted) (P) Phosphorous = P4 (extreme surplus) (K) Potassium = K2 (adequate) My question is, it seems starter fertilizers are usually high in Phosphorous such as the Scotts Starter I have which is 20-27-5. But if I use that will the excess in Phosphors be bad for the new grass germination? Should I consider using a regular fertilizer like a 24-4-4 instead? Any recommendations? Thanks!
Scotts Turf Builder with plus 2 Weed Control help? I put down the Turf Builder since my yard is nearly 90% weeds, maybe even 95%. I tried the weed B gone spray and it didn't work well. Since I have never used a spreader before I didn't know how fast to turn the handle or walk. When I was done I notice I used 3/4 of a bag that was supposed to be for 5000 sq ft. My yard is probably only about 1200 sq ft. The package says to wait 1 month before putting down new seed and I want to over-seed my lawn this summer. Should I extend the waiting time since I used too much Turf Builder? Will the extra amount be harmful to what little grass I have? Thank you for your time.
lawn care>? i am in ma. my lawn is in pretty bad shape. when should i seed? when should i put down the scotts product that prevents crab grass? in which order?
How to fix crabgrass issue? I live in northern California. Our back lawn is about 50/50 regular grass/crabgrass. It's March 2 and the crabgrass is currently dead. I read to use a pre-emergent before it gets too warm to keep the crabgrass from germinating again. However, I need to pull up all the dead crabgrass and then I was going to put down Scotts Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass. But, it says not to put down new seed for 4 months afterward. I'm going to have huge bare patches once I pull up the crabgrass and want to reseed. Which should I do first? If I reseed first, then I have to wait for that new grass to grow and be mowed 4 times before applying the Halts Crabgrass stuff. Do I have enough time or will it get too warm before the new grass is established? Or, do I need to put down the Halts now and wait until July to put down new seed?
Help with lawn full of weeds? I put down Scotts Turf Builder with plus 2 weed control since my yard is nearly 90% weeds, maybe even 95%. I tried the weed B gone spray and it didn't work well. Should I extend the waiting time since I used too much Turf Builder? Will the extra amount be harmful to what little grass I have? Thank you for your time. I can see a little bit of grass here and there under the weeds leafs. There is some there, the fertilizer had weed contro l in it, I do have brush killer that will kill it all, I want to overseed in the fall too, I read fall is the best time to overseed.

How do I get rid of Quack grass from my lawn? Hi All, My home is about 5 years old, I bought it 1.5 years ago. When I bought the house, there were some patches of grass that was growing faster than the regular lawn grass -- did not know what it was .. forgot about it. I asked tru-green to service the lawn last year and spent extra money to do the aeration and seeding .. No results and no support. Fast forwarding to today.. the bunchy grass (quack grass?) has grown like weeds and has taken over 1/2 of the lawn area. it is still early spring here and the normal lawn has not picked up any length yet.. but quack grass is over 6 inches already . My lawn is in very bad shape. I read some where in the blog to dig out the grass and patch up with grass patch - so I dug about 10 - 15 patches, bought Scotts lawn patch grass and put it on the patches. I have another 10 -15 spots to clear out -- Can one of you readers help if this is a good idea.. :? What else can I do ? Thanks for reading the post, I appreciate your help.
sod lawn showing browning and thinning throughout. is this a fungus? how do i treat it? i have a sodded yard and for the past 8 weeks it seems to be struggling. in many areas there are green and brown blades of grass and the grass appears to be thinning. one spot is almost completely bald and can easily be pulled out. when i first noticed the problem i thought i was underwatering so i have been watering the heck out of it for the past 2 months... no response. i recently purchased Bayer fungus control and applied it about 10 days ago. seems to have worked moderately, however, hard to tell since i now mow the yard extremely high as fearing mowing to low was part of the problem. i also now bag the clippings as i heard that can contribute. it is noteable that the sod is only a year old and since installed has never been aerated or thatched. i fertilize it pretty regularly as advised by scotts 4 part plan. also, i live in the northeast so with the fall weather i am concerned as the grass should be thriving right now. my backyard is seed and is doing fine.pleasehelp
Is it the right time? We just bought Scotts Sun & Shade mix, fertilizer, starter all that but now I'm just wondering if it is the right time of year to be planting grass seed. I really would hate to waste it. It has been pretty hot during the days but raining in the evening. Any thoughts?
Moss! Moss! Moss! Recently applied moss killer to yard. Some is black/dying...now what? My husband and I purchased our first home last September and the previous owner must have been a fan of moss (or a lazy bum). We are currently working on the front yard and saving most of the back yard for next spring. Our problem is... the moss! The yard seems to be more moss than grass. It looks nice and green but its moss ridden! I purchased some Scotts Turf Builder W/Moss Control which kills the moss and fertilizes the grass to be hardier so moss doesnt grow back. But what I dont really understand is...What do I do after the moss has started dying? There are some areas where it hasnt, and I plan to try some liquid Moss Out that wont hurt the grass, but in many areas the moss is turning black as it is suppose to. I am trying to be patient but I am not sure what I am to do at this point. Once it turns black am I suppose to dig it out and seed? I have grass seed... Or is the moss suppose to decompose entirely and leave empty spots for me to seed? I applied the Turf Builder a good month or so ago and some of the smaller moss spots started turning blackish. We also have clay acidic soil which is why the moss is thriving so much. I can tell the yard wasnt cared for, probably for years. We live in Western Washington where we get a lot of rain. So even with just mowing and never watering, you can have a green yard. As far as our lumpy and mossy backyard goes, I think were going to get it de-sod and relayer the soil with better draining properties and add a few french drainage systems while its all torn up.
Bermuda help!!? I put out 15 lbs of Bermuda seed and scotts starter fertlizier on my new 90x60 lot a little over a month ago and there were a lot of weeds at the time. I watered it everyday for a month and I have alot of grass now but I can't tell if its bermuda. Someone said kill the weeds so I just sprayed a whole bottle of Ortho Weed-B-Gone for southern lawns and a day later I can already see that the majority of my lawn is turning yellow. What do I do now? Plant more bermuda seed?
