Will grass (the lawn type) seeds be okay after a year in storage? I bought grass seeds last year and have a bunch left over. Do the seeds die or should they be ok for use this year?

How can I plant grass seeds over my existing lawn? We just moved into a new house and the old owners probably didnt care about their lawn. It's neatly trimmed, but there's a lot of variety of plants -- i.e. grass, weeds, crab grass and some other weird stuff that i really dont like. My problem is, Im a noob when it comes to gardening. My Lawn Grass is Seeding -- Why should i Mow? I read somewhere (i might be wrong) that you shouldn't let your grass grow to the point where it develops these funny pods at their tips that contain new grass seeds, and that it should be mowed before it gets to this point. Is that true? Why is it a good idea to mow before it gets to this point? Are there benefits to a healthier lawn by mowing? I would think it would be healthier of a lawn to not mow. Can I mow the lawn even though new grass seeds haven't grown as yet? I planted Grass seeds on April 27th to the bald patches on my lawn. I have waited for them to grow as we have been getting plenty of Sun and Rain the past 12 days and this should've been sufficient for the Grass seed to grow. I didn't mow the lawn as yet because I wanted the grass seed to at least start growing before I use the lawn mower and scatter the seeds everywhere. However the grass seeds still have not grown as yet and the Grass is becoming horribly long. Should I proceed with mowing the lawn or will this scatter the seeds everywhere? I did lightly sprinkle soil over the grass seeds but still thinking that the lawn mower might scatter them. Do I need to replant new grass seeds?
Can I lay down additional grass seed 2 weeks following initial lawn seeding to fill in the newly planted lawn? Two weeks ago, I put down some lawn seed that has germinated and grown about 1-2 inches. How can I fix grass growing in patches in my lawn ? Hi ! I planted grass seeds in my lawn about 3 weeks ago and I see the grass growing but it is growing in patches. There are areas where the blades are almost 6" long and the grass is also thick but there are bare areas with no growth. I raked those areas yesterday and planted more seeds there and then covered with the raked soil (about 1/2" thick). Should that do it ? I have been watering the lawn twice every day (morning and evening) keeping the soil moist. When the first time I planted the seeds, I added fertilizer to the soil (mixed with soil and then layed it out, spread seeds and covered with more soil). Could too much fertilizer have been bad ? Anything else I could do for a uniform growth ? And how does the grass become thick ? At the beginning it appears to be growing far from each other. Lastly, this is in the bay area in California. My new lawn grass is growing in unevenly - should I be concerned? Hi - I am about two weeks into a lawn renovation project. I rough-graded the turf, removed any loose stones, spread topseed using a Scott's broadcast spreader, added plenty of topsoil, then water & finally Scott's starter fertilizer. I know it is early, and the results thus far are mixed. In some areas, the grass has sprouted nicely. In other areas, nothing yet but small stubbles. Should I be concerned or do sections of grass tend to grow in at different speeds? Using the Scott's spreader, I feel pretty confident that the grass seed was spread evenly. Thank you.

spray grass seed mixture on lawn? I've leveled off my lawn with 3 inches of landscape mix. I'd like to spray a grass seed mixture to grow new Bermuda grass but can't seem to put my finger on what exactly such a mixture would be called so I can check around locally to purchase it. My bent grass lawn is turning brown? The bent grass seed instructions were followed to the letter, now after a month the lawn is turning brown in spots. No dos or cats on the lawn, so that's not it. Fungus treatment does not seem to help. Seed states after hardening off, the lawn can be watered "once or twice a month" and stops growing at about 4-5 inches height. HELP!? The tiny lawn in question is near Pismo Beach, California, about 3 miles inland. Foggy, coastal influence, otherwise 7-10 inches of rain a year.

What is the best way to eliminate QUACK grass from my lawn? The lawn care company that fertilizes my yard says that I can choke the Quackgrass out by planting more grass seed...eventually running the undesireable grass out. Other resources indicate that using a non-selective herbicide to kill the lawn and start from zero is the best way. The lawncare company disputes that the herbicides don't kill dormant roots of quackgrass and it will grow back after planting fresh grass seed. Thier best solution is to overseed several times over two seasons. None of the options is particularly cheap, so I don't want to trial and error this problem.
i destroyed my lawn without realizing it. i seeded over a blue grass lawn with tall fescue. how do i fix it? Bare areas on lawn, need grass seeding I think.? We have a few bare spots in our lawn due to equipment being operated and tore up the lawn somewhat. I planted proper grass seeds in my lawn and they died a month after they grew in. Anyone know why? I planted the right kind (sun-shade, etc.) for my lawn in the areas, and they grew in full and green. I continued to water everyday at sundown, I didn't weed and feed, I didn't mow it, but they still just died. Can someone tell me why this may have occurred and will I have to replant? What do I need to do differrent this time? Most of the areas were patches, but some areas had nothing but dirt where I planted them. The grass that grew appears to have molded or mildewed down to the dirt. Now those areas are just bald again. I checked with my local lawn and garden store and they have no idea. Please help......
