Are there well-water safe fertilizing methods for green lawns? I use water from a well and want my lawn to be green but don't want to contaminate my well water. TruGreen states that their product is safe for well water, but I don't believe the hype. Is there something I can apply that won't cause a buildup in harmful nitrates or other chemicals? Sometimes I drink the water and my fingers turn blue.
Is fertilizing my lawn thats on a lake really bad? I live on a lake... My lawn looks like crap. Tons of other people that live on the lake fertilize theyre lawns. How bad is it for the lake? The lake isnt too big and its spring fed (which i heard is kinda like a self-cleaning lake)
How did people fertilize lawns , plants before chemical fertilizers? I am imagining they probably threw out a thin layer of sifted cow manure on the lawn?? as well as around plants? anyone know for sure? how often and frequently did people do this? and what about broadleaf weeds in the lawn? Thanks for your answers! Does anyone know when people began to really use chemical fertilizers and herbicides? What did they use for pre-emergent ?
Should I pay a company who did lawn fertilizing without my authorization? I hired and paid a lawn fertilizing company in 2006 for fertilizing service in Michigan. I sold my house in March 2007, but the same company continued fertilizing service in April, 2007 without my authorization. The fertilizing company called me requesting payment (aeration and 3 fertilizing =$198). I refused the payment because I did not request their service continued in 2007. They said I was liable because I did not cancel the service. Are they right?
Do pellet-type lawn fertilizers keep fertilizing for awhile, or does it happen all at once? I fertilized my lawn for the first time this spring. I used one of those dispensers that flings out the little fertilizer pellets as you walk behind it. I assume that these little pellets just sit on the lawn, inactive, until it rains. But does the first significant rain dissolve them and fertilize the lawn all at once? Or do they fertilize continuously for a number of weeks/months? Thanks!
Can I skip summer lawn fertilizing using Scott's annual program? I have lived in my home for 6 yrs now. Since I moved I have been following the 4 step Scott's annual program and it has worked great. I also aereate 1 time a year in fall. Lately I have been thinking when I fertilize during the summer it tends to make my lawn less happy. Is it ok if I skip to the fall treatment only and do nothing in summer other than water when needed or will that make more problems later on?
Need tips for fertilizing my lawn? Our lawn is more weeds than grass. What would be the best fertilizer to use this spring? And when is it best to apply it - when the weather is going to be dry for a few days, or when rain is in the forecast?
How many weeks should I give before fertilizing again? How many weeks should I go before I fertilize my lawn again. I use Scotts fertilizing products, and put down my first Application on April 8. I'm figuring 7-8 weeks, but I'd like your opinions? Is that to long, or to short? When should I put down my second Application? Thanks in advance.
Fertilizing my lawn with and I have a dug well? I have a dug well on my property which is used for drinking water. It's 15ft deep. I am thinking of spreading some fertilizer for the lawn. Is it bad to spread chemical fertilizers for fear of it leaking into the well? Or is 15ft deep enough? I wanted to spread grub-ex and weed and feed to get rid of all the weeds and moles.

Do it yourself fertilizing vs paying a professional? For the two years I have had my house in Ohio, I have used the Scotts cycle of fertilizing my lawn, with modest results. I have had a professional calling me trying to sell me his fertilizer cycle (6 times/yr, $40/ea application). He claims that his "professional grade" fertilizer is much better than the Scotts because he calls it a dry fertilizer, or one that doesn't need immediate rain to release into the soil. His claim is that I will have a much greener and fuller lawn with less weeds. Do you think he is pulling my chain, or do you think this could be legit? Your thoughts on the differences?
Lawn cutting before fertilizing the lawn? I just cut the lawn and would like to put down fertilizer. My question is, should I wait a few days before I do so? I'm afraid with the fresh cut grass blades that it will burn the lawn. I'm only asking because we are expecting rain and thought I could save on water since the fertilizer needs it, rather than wait and then run the sprinkler. Thanks for your help.
Fertilizing my lawn, when? I live in Michigan, and am a new home owner. This is my first spring in our new house, and I am unsure when I should fertilize my lawn for the first time. My neighbor said the Trugreen already came by and sprayed her lawn about 2 weeks ago.
Can u give me some advice on fertilizing fruit trees--apricot, loquat and apple? There are three fruit trees in my backyard---apricot, apple (dwarf), and loquat. They are established trees and have been planted for over 15 years. But they have not been fertilized of for at least 3 to 4 years. I think they have been pruned down but not carefully done--just pretty much pruned to keep the size not too big to not interfere with the wires in the neighborhood. They are planted with lawn grass around them and the lawn has been cared for--fertilized and watered regularly... so it looks healthy. I'd like to get these trees to produce fruits again. Right now they produce tiny lil fruits that don't look too appetizing. Leaf-growth looks good--green and plenty. Can someone tell me if I can use Ammonium Sulfate for all three of them for fertlizer? I'm also planning on fertilizing them in early spring around Feb next year---is that a good time? I live in the bay area in California.. hardiness zone 9.
Need good lawn fertilizing company for home.? Hi, I live in Southlake area. I have called companies such as TruGreen and they give me ridiculous estimates like $180 per treatment. I do have an acre lot which I craved and now that I have to take care of as well. Any good company with reasonable rates is what I am looking for. Thanks in advance.
How long before it's safe to send child and dog on a fertilized lawn? The lawn care company I just hired last week wasn't supposed to fertilize the backyard, but they "accidentally" did. They say 24-48 hours before anyone should romp on it; I just got done watering the lawn to help it along. How much longer do I wait? What's safe? I feel like a big dummy asking, but I don't want to put my kid or dog at risk.
How long before it's safe to send a puppy on a fertilized lawn? The problem is she eats the grass like crazy. My mother fertilized the lawn now i have to use a leash and walk her in the back yard to get her to pee. But she does not seem to want to pee on the leash so she waits till i put her back in the house then pees. Its really annoying.
Lawn fertilizing? For someone who is doing the lawn fertilizing for the first time, which spreader would you recommend - drop type or broadcaster/rotary type? If I apply fertilizer+weed control this weedend, when should I apply Grubex for grubs? The Grubex product bag says anytime between April & August, but my question is about timing of application of grubex with respect to application of fertilizer. Thanks in advance for the information.
When Do I Water My Lawn After Fertilizing? i used Scotts Turf Builder, it said dont apply if rain is expected within 24 hours or longer. but others say if you dont water it will burn the grass? Edmonton,Alberta Current Temp 15-22 Celcius
will fertilizing my yard harm my vegetable garden? I need to fertilize my yard due to many weeds in our area from some wetlands. I just planted a raised bed vegetable garden and don't want to eat the fertilizer I use on my lawn. should I stop fertilizing or is it okay? My neighbors fertilize, will that seep into my garden as well??
What happens if you walk on fertilized lawn? My dad put fertilizer down (I don't know what kind) this morning without telling me and I walked through the yard. Then he let me know after he saw me. We have a fenced in back yard and I didn't think he put it down there( I know not very smart) so I threw the ball to my dog for awhile barefooted for awhile. My dad told me to wash my feet off and my dog's but I should be fine. I just want to be sure. Does something happen after walking on fertilized grass?
What are some other causes for yellow spots in lawns besides dog urine? Once the snow melted off our lawn, we've seen TONS of yellow spots. We don't have a dog, and although we've seen a few dogs running loose in the neighborhood, we don't think it's from them. It only affects our front yard and not our back. We did fertilize in the fall - could we have used too much and burned the grass? How can we find out for sure and what are some ways to repair the grass?
How often can you fertilize the lawn? I have a bought a new house, and the lawn has some weeds and seems very thin. I put some Scotts weed and feed on it last week, it looks greener. How soon can I fertilize the lawn again?
How soon should I fertilize my lawn so I can get a super green lawn by early April? I live in Chicago and I want my lawn to be perfectly green by early April. I look at the Major league Baseball fieldas and by opening even here in Chicago it looks like a lawn in late May. I do not know how they do it but I want to fertilize my lawn as soon as possible after the first day of Spring. So what is a good product for me to use and how soon can I fertilize. Thanks for the help!!
What are some of the more natural ways to fertilize your lawn and to keep pests at bay than using commercial.. ..products? In a response to one of my questions ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060703233434AA0JzZ5 ), woodenwater1959 gave the following excellent response, "On the other side, I am against applying commercial fertilizer and pesticides to lawns. People tend to over fertilize and over-water their lawns and the excess nutrients end up running off into sorm drains and streams. There are more natural ways to fertilize your lawn and to keep pests at bay." What are some of the more natural ways you have seen or used ? I would like to try some of the suggestions.
Do I need to fertilize my lawn in the summer? I live in the richmond, va. area and I have a new lawn I started last fall. It is tall fescue. Does my lawn need to be fertilized in the summer. I plan on reseeding this fall. Also I have lots of weeds. What is the best way to get rid of them?
Is it the right time to fertilize my lawn? I finally got my sprinklers fixed and we got enough rain for my lawn to come back to life but now it's over-run with weeds. I live in South Florida and it's St. Augustine grass so some weed and feeds will kill the grass. Would it help to bring back my yard if I fertilize now? Are there any special tricks to thickens the lawn up? Should I seed too? Will the seed take at this time of year?
When should I seed and fertilize my lawn? It's October and I don't know what I should do to make sure my lawn comes back after winter. The sod was placed both in June and in late September but I don't know how to seed it or how to fertilize it properly because I've never lived in a place with a real winter season (snow!) Some areas of the grass is turning brown, but other areas are super green.
Should I hire a lawn service to fertilize my lawn? I've recently bought a new house in a nice part of town, and every lawn on the block looks great. My lawn is in OK shape. I've been landscaping for my dad for years and have had great results, but I haven't fertilized on my own for a couple seasons. I know how to do it but several of my friends say I should hire a pro. Is it really worth the money or is it something I can do myself?
Should I contact a lawn fertilizing company? My St. Augustine is in pretty bad shape. The summer drought here in FL combined with insects, and then tons of rain, have left my lawn with huge dead grass patches in many area. We believe we might have to resod those areas. But we also have many weeds out of control. Scott Bonus S is not working for the weeks. I used Tru Green before, but my dog's paws got extremely raw, even when I allowed her to go out in the yard the next day, not even the same day it was applied. They did work, but they wanted to keep coming every 4 weeks and I believe fertilizing should be a 4-5 time a year thing, not a 12 time a year event! Besides, the money!!! Will I have to resod? Should I remove the dead grass, leave it bare for a while and spray the soil with something? Can it be saved just as is with the proper chemicals/fertilizer, etc? IF so, what can I use? I am not sure what kinds of bugs I have but we did see grubs in some areas. And probably chinch bugs.
Looking for help on planting grass and fertilizing yard.? The grass in our yard is very sparce and we would like to have a thicker lawn. What type of pet friendly lawn fertilizers and weed killers are out there? It's spring time so it's time to start fertilizing the lawn and spraying the weeds but I don't want to use chemicals because I don't want the dog to be laying in it or eating the grass that has the bad stuff on it. So I was wondering if there is anything out there that's safe for pets as well as fertilizes and controls the weeds? Any help is appreciated thanks.
How often should I fertilize my lawn? I just bought a new home in September and this spring we worked really hard to get a lawn going. Now the grass has grown, but it has sections that are dark green and sections that are light green. Will fertilizer help and how often do you use it?
Should I fertilize my lawn in the winter? I live outside Chicago, wondering if adding some fertilizer like the scotts organic to the lawn would help build up the level of nutrients for when spring hits? or would it just get basically washed away before the spring and be a waste?
LEGALLY..How much notice is required before fertilizing lawn.? I chose an "Ortho" product that is safe for kids and pets as soon as it dries. My tenant is mad because I gave no notice but did leave a note in her door and a sign in the yard notifying her I had fertilized. Ofcourse I apologized and said next time I'd give her 24hrs. notice. She came up with some 3-day notice thing..not sure where she got it? Please keep answers knowledgeable in legal matters. Thanks. PLEASE keep it legal...I'm on a strict time limit here. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Why Does My Lawn Have a Rust Color Dust Coming From the Grass ? This fall my lawn has had a rust colored dust that collects on shoes and lawn mower. The grass does not appear rust color, maybe a little stressed. I put a nitrogen fertilizer (Loveland Renovator) on my lawn. I guy at the lawn & nursery store said my lawn probably has a fungus on it. But I'm wondering if I've over fertilized my lawn. Can over fertilizing a lawn make it discolor or rusty?
